Why the Vic Farmer?

Thats what I wondered until I got mine. I have not had it to long but I can say that once its in your hand, you know you have a sturdy versitile tool. SOLID is the best and shortest way to describe it.

I wanted to share what I did with my farmer. You could do it with almost any knife. I got a brass I.D. tube for a dog collar from petsmart similar to this one.
http://www.amazinganimal.co.uk/brass-tube-p-1193.html?currency=USD It has a slot in it to help unscrew it. I used a dremel to open the slot so it would hold a small peace of flint from a match safe. I used epoxy to hold it in. Then jammed as much petroleum jelly soaked cotton in it as I could. ( It will burn for about 45-60 seconds ) It is hanging on the key ring.
I don't think I have added much to this forum sense I joined so I would like to know what you think of this.

Too bad you cant order a custom Vic. get just the tools that you want & no more! I have a mechanic & love the pliers, (very well made). I would like a saw blade & pliers but most with the saw blade have scissors & the ones with saw blade & pliers have a lot of tools that I dont want or need!

My wife bought me one for X-mas, but i have not received it yet. Hopefully it lives up to its reputation.

There are a few people that do custom SAKs, they cost a bit but they are worth it. check on SOSAK forum at http://www.knifeforums.com

Since it's missing the Tweezers, one thing you can do is buy a pair of Uncle Bill's Sliver Grippers and attach them to the ring. The Sliver Grippers are far superior to the tweezers that come with most SAKs.

The Farmer is by far my favorite SAK. I carry it daily and in daily use it has performed flawlessly. In the woods it is indespensible and paired with my Leatherman Charge TTi it gives me a backup saw. I practice a lot of redundancy when in the woods and I really like the tools the Farmer carries and how solid it is. I just said over in the RAT Cutlery forum that my gear has stopped rotating as often. The Farmer does not rotate it stays in the bottom of my right front pocket.

Okay, all this chatter got me going and I found a deal on a Farmer and it arrived today. Now I get it! What a nice compact, light weight (3oz) knife. Simple, clean, and just the right selection of tools. I like it!

This one is red... gotta have a black one now.... HELP ME, I HAVE VICTITIS! :D

and how bout the silver one!

like they said, Solid!

A folding mora was discussed in other threads-- this is it. It's a whole lotta tool for $20 or so.

That silver Alox would go great with my silver Fenix P1 :)

If you don't mind a larger locking blade, the Atlas has just about what you're looking for, along with an inline phillips.

Dale you make a great argument for when she says; "Why do you need another one?"

answer; "To MATCH and ACCESSORIZE" like you do!

I just picked up a red farmer as well, very nice indeed. I am not crazy about the new style of lanyard ring due to the way it protrudes from the body of the knife. I much prefer the older hollow tube method, much more comfortable in my pocket.

I find for my needs the Outrider works best.

Blade that locks, saw, and scissors. In the corkscrew I can put a Vic eyeglass screwdriver.

I wanted multifunctionality, and the scissors would help with any wound debridement.

YMMV

I juts received mine yesterday. I think its size and selection of tools are what make it popular. I will be EDCing mine for awhile, so I will let you guys know what i think about it after some use.
