Why won't Spyderco explore deep carry pocket clips?

I think the deep carry wire clips are my favorite knife pocket clips. I wouldnt mind having them on all my knives. Just my opinion of course. I think if Spyderco would start using deep carry clips, it would be the same problem many manufactures run into. 50% of people like deep carry and the other half dont. Thats what a rep from kershaw/zt said once. And what knives should have them and which ones shouldn't.
I personally prefer deep carry a little more then traditional, but as far as non deep carry clip goes, the spydercos hourglass style is my favorite.

Deep carry clips are great on small Knives. Large ones not so much. Knife will bottom out before clip is properly seated.

The problem with the Janisong deep-carry clip is that it is too tight for pockets thicker than parchment paper. I could never slide it all the way down on any of my pockets. I love the black, deep-carry wire clip on the Schempp Bowie.

The Spyderco Jannisong has a great deep carry clip, but its sadly unavailable on anything else. Spyderco has made a deep carry clip they will put their name on.
True, but that clip only has to work with one specific knife. If they offer a deep carry replacement for the common three screw "hourglass" clip, folks will complain if it doesn't work flawlessly on every model that uses that clip. On many of the Japanese models that means allowing tip up carry on without obstructing the lanyard hole and tip down carry mounted over an exposed pivot screw.

I really wish the loop over wire clip was standard across their line. By far my favorite pocket clip from any maker.

my least favorite, so i'd never buy a spyderco. spyderco does it right, as is on making the decisions. it's only a handful that get left out on any one particular knife. until they figure out a universal attachment setup ability to pick and choose clips per knife that is.....

Yep...to all of the above. You beat me to it.

Nice replies folks. I totally get the whys, like for viability and reliability. And I certainly wouldn't m want to suggest Spyderco hurt small businesses.

I really dig my Sage 1 wire clip and sometimes....just sometimes wish it were on my PM2s (made in a way to fit of course). I think a PM3 with a fold over wire clip would be alright....for me.

To veer off just a bit...I've had some issues lately where my PM2 hourglass clips are catching things (seat belts, sport coat lower inside pockets) and I'm not real sure why. Been rockin my PM2s damn near every day at work for over 2 years now and only recently (last month and a half or so) they've been catching on things. When did I start wearing my knives and clothes wrong? Haha

I feel like the odd man out, I prefer standard clips. Easier to grab the knife and Im just so used to it. Mind you, Im always in jurisdictions that prohibit and frown upon larger knives but I don't care, Millie Endura whatever... for all the world to see.

That's sounds like a worthwhile project. A redesign of the spoon clip and the attachment method for both to allow exchange of the clips.

Nailed it! Also if you look at Spyderco as-whole there aren't many knife companies out there that have as a diverse a line up along with the quality and price that spyderco has.

Deep carry is often overrated. Unless concealment is a higher priority than actual use and ease of deployment.
Concealing my pocket knife is rarely a concern of mine.

I was on a kick for awhile and have tried many of the available aftermarket deep carry clips from many makers... and I feel a majority of them somewhat ruin the in-hand ergos during use.
It all depends on the design, but even the highly regarded Lynch clip doesn't work for me on some knife designs (but on others it is a great fit)

Putting them into your pocket so they sit all the way deep, and pulling them out of a pocket over an edge seam is a little cumbersome since you have to push/pull it over the screw heads and lip the thickness of the clip material.

For the most part, learning through trial and error experience on many many knives and clips - I have come to realize that the factory Spyderco clips are usually completely awesome (aside from some odd collab clips that have ripped my couch, lol).

Concealing a knife is always my first priority.

Luckily, I really like the deep carry aftermarket options and have a couple that are far better than any factory clips I've had. I don't expect I'd like any option Spyderco offered better than these.

I had to sell my Lavas because no one I could find is making a deep carry clip for that particular screw hole configuration. And I can't carry a knife with a polished clip with a giant tick engraved on it and an inch of bright blue G10 sticking out of my pocket.

Personally I'm not a big fan of fold-over deep carry clips. I like the better retention you get with a standard clip and I also like some handle to grab onto when extracting the knife from pocket.

I don't like deep carry clips. I like the ones on my Domino, GB1, Sage 2, Stretch, etc. I don't have any reason to use a deep carry clip.

Had no problem putting a clip on my Lava ;). This is a Gnoleb Knives one - fits perfectly. Casey Lynch doesn't make BM hole pattern clips (yet!) but he did make the sweet beads on the Lava and the one on his prybar in this pic too. :)

When I carry my PPT with the deep carry clip I don't have it in a pocket. It's always IWB.

I like and enjoy both options on different knives for different reasons. I usually pull my knife out by the bottom of the clip with my middle finger (thumb in pocket) so my hand falls right in place, making deep carry deployment no different than any other. Its good to have options for different situations, but pinching the butt end was never ideal for me anyway.

However, my life is mostly situations that favor more concealment than a hunk of G10 and a shiny clip hanging out of my pocket can provide. I really do wish Spyderco would make a "universal" deep carry clip available for people that require it.
