Why won't Spyderco explore deep carry pocket clips?

I've had both types of the "standard" spyderco clip. I prefer the wire clip to the spoon mostly due to the fact that it doesn't scratch stuff with the screws if I rub too close to it. I've also found that I can more easily access stuff in my pockets with the wire clip and that the wire clips don't wiggle as easily as the spoon clips. That being said, all of the spydercos I currently own are spoon clips, so it must not bother me that much.

As for the universal clip, I always thought they could do a spoon clip with two protruding "feet" like the profile of the slots on the handle for the wire clip. That way people could just choose which clip they want and spyderco wouldn't have to make any modifications to the design other than that. But I'm sure there's a reason why they don't do that.

Didn't read the whole thread, but the spyderco wire clip in the fold over / deep carry configuration might just be my favourite clip for knives ever. I certainly would love to see something like this as an aftermarket add on. My delica would certainly see more pocket time then.

In thinking back, all my clip problems (if I really want to call it a problem) comes from the hourglass clips on my PM2. It's getting caught on everything these days.

My wire clip on the Sage has never caught on anything.

Not sure what this proves, and not sure it's even relevant to the deep carry question.

I will note that I only use the clip for stability/pinch during the draw from the pocket. So, a bend up at the tip is not really necessary for me.

PM2, tip down from the left front pocket

Setting up the draw

Initiating the draw

A deep carry clip with no up bend at the tip might be a bit of a modification to the same type of draw.

Note: this PM2 is not set up properly for left hand/pocket carry. It is set up for right, but I carry my knives on the left/support side of my body.

I suppose if I switched the clip to left my draw might be better/different.

I am a deep carry guy. The first thing I look at on a knife is the clip and how far it will stick out of my pocket. I work in an office environment and do not want to advertise the knife to everybody. I like my Spydercos, but the Janisong gets the most carry time due to the clip. I think there is a business model for Spyderco to sell deep carry clips for the most popular models, or to officially license another entity to produce them. It would be nice to have a Spyderco branded deep carry clip. All of the aftermarket options are missing the Spyderco logo due to trademark infringement.

Maybe Sal should test the waters with a sprint run of PM2 deep carry clips available through licensed Spyderco dealers and see how fast they sell.

I like deep carry clips, but it seems they are part of trendy words along with titanium, frame lock and flipper :)
I prefer Spyderco to be true to their own standards than running after what is more a trend to le than a real necessity

What? How in the heck are pocket clips that display as little of the knife (aka weapon to many people) as possible "trendy"? It is/would be a good option to have.

I like (maybe prefer) deep carry clip.
However I think that it is not such a big deal not to have one.
Actually sometime I find standard clips to be useful to pull the knife out of the pocket.
I tried some deep carry with my PM2 and I never get one that enjoy me and I finally used the standard clip

I don't care a whole lot about the depth of carry to be honest. I like the wire clips for comfort. The one on the Manix 2 LW isn't the loop-over deep carry variety and I still much prefer it to the spoon clip.

The spoon clip, along with the standard stamped clips from other makers, can make for horrible hot spots when positioned incorrectly. I just removed a deep carry clip from a BM 940 and replaced it with their standard phallic offering because the deep carry made the knife really uncomfortable in hand. The wire clips from Spyderco, regardless of depth, seem to be immune to this fault. It doesn't matter where the wire sits in my palm, I never find it uncomfortable.

I've been upgrading mine to mxg deep carry clips. So far a millie and two para 2's have been upgraded. Eventually I suspect all my users will be, but that will take some time.

I put an MXG Gear deep carry clip on my ZT 0770. Quality clip that looks amazing. Wish I could get an aftermarket deep carry clip with a Spyderco logo on it.
