Why won't Spyderco explore deep carry pocket clips?

I agree abbazaba, I like both types. Deep carry (Lynch or factory wire clip) usually for office.

I would love to see a factory deep carry replacement for the normal hourglass clip. I would also not mind if the normal hourglass clips came with a more subdued etched/stonewashed/bead blasted or similar finish.

My least favorite are the painted clips, they look ratty within a few weeks.

Concealing a knife is always my first priority.

It is just about my last priority...actually, it isn't a priority for me at all. ;)

Ease of getting the knife when I want to use it is a priority for me though, so I hate deep-carry clips for the most part.
When I get a knife that has one, I try to find a way to replace it with one that isn't deep-carry at all.

Last time I crossed the border into the USA, they didn't care about my knife at all...but questioned me a bunch about using a walking stick.
They wanted to make sure I wasn't going to bash people with the stick (seriously, they asked me about that!).

Now if they made a deep-carry clip for my 4 foot walking stick so people wouldn't be worried about it... :D

The wire clips aren't really deep carry. Some of the handle sticks out, at least on my Sage 2.
True I suppose, if by "some of the handle" you mean a sliver. Still, I doubt most here would agree with you. Sage 2 is leftmost in bottom row.

I do prefer deep carry, but it has nothing to do with concealment. It makes it much easier to get in and out of your pocket for other things.

No idea, not even sure where to start guessing...
And you said Sage 2. I probably wouldn't have guessed.

So yeah, looks like the Spyderco deep wire clips do conceal alright, even to someone who is trying to spot them! :D

Bottom row second from left....I'm going to guess it's a Caly.

Any knife person can spot a clip right away, whether it's deep carry or not. A non knife person might not know what it is either way? To me the deep carry clip isn't that important and just makes a little more difficult to get out of my pocket. If I've got a knife like a spyderco police that I want to conceal, I clip it to the waistband of my jeans under my belt.

Why the obsession for deep carry clips?

I've never had one that didn't piss me off. They drop the knife down so far that I have to shift my grip after it's out of my pocket in order to reach the opener. Understandably, this applies to my carry style and size preference.

To each their own and all, but deep carry clips are a little too trendy. If they offer any benefit I'm with that. But let's not pretend there isn't an overwhelming "need" among knife knuts to just have one for the sake of it.

I figured deep carry meant nothing showed, for fear of someone seeing it, or whatever the reason is. You're right that it's very minimal, but the wire clips aren't "deep carry" by design. In any case, it's not something that bothers me, but I wanted to point out that the whole handle (some) isn't concealed. Whether it matters is up to whoever is doing the carrying.

Not to be stubborn, but they are indeed designed to be deep carry.
They make wire clips that are "non-deep carry", like come on a Manix 2 LW, and the wire bends up under the screw, or wire clips like shown here that fold over the screw...

But I do definitely agree with you on the rest. :)

I think the clips by Casey Lynch are terrific. I personally like that they are "deep carry," but his design goes beyond that. They have a hole that echoes the hole on the blade. This makes sense visually and, like the one on the blade, it improves your grip on the knife.

Actually, as long as the knife has any kind of pocket clip, I'm happy!!
Rolf,

You truly have the best attitude ever. It is inspiring and enviable. I wish I was as positive and easygoing as you are!

Believe me I've tried. But alas, I am an opinionated, irritable ass!

Have a good Christmas, guy.

And the rest of you too!

Thanks! lol! I just try.
And hey, we're all different.
Merry Christmas!
