Nobody buys a $200 impact wrench to look at and use a $50 one for work. So why do people buy sebenzas and then go buy a cheap knife as beater knife. I thought the whole point of paying more is it would handle MORE abuse not so you would be afraid to use it in dirty situations.

you've got a mercedes and a jeep, you're driving to the forest for a camping trip. which vehicle are you gonna take?

I use my Hinderer and Sebenza knives all the time and I think a lot of people do. The thing is that I also clean them up. When you clean them up afterward you can barely tell they have been used. The bottom is my 11 year old very hard used Small 21 and the top one is a brand new one. The only major difference between the 2 is that mine has a very rounded tip from cutting drywall on concrete! It is amazing how well these knives take hard use and do not show it!

The same sentiment extends to my views on knife "collecting" ... LOL

Why? No explanation is necessary. Many people associate a knife as a bit of manufactured art like firearms. You think ordinary folks buy fancy stocks for their rifles and then take them on an Alaskan Brown bear hunt or Mountain sheep hunt? I suspect most are shot at the range for the most part. Knives are a little like that, a little.

One of my friends was in disbelief when I told him that from the day I got it early this past summer I'd been using my ZT 0562CF-204P daily, including several times per week while working with an urban gardening charity. I was using a ZT 0801 before that. That 0801 now belongs to the youth pastor at my church (who's also the church janitor and church lawn care / landscaper). Both of those ZTs get used hard, and they show minimal wear.

You know what? That is their choice. If they want to buy an expensive knife and not use it, guess what, they get to do that. I personally prefer to use my knives. Some people buy some knives JUST for collection purposes also. To each their own. That is what makes this hobby so wonderful, that there IS so many knives for ALL of us!! :)

Your knives. Do what you want with them. I don't have any safe queens, but if the probability of contact with concrete is high I'll use a Stanley.

Concrete?

Medford.

First I would never buy a Mercedes. But if I did depends. Is it a Mercedes little car or one comparable to jeep? If the latter, I would take Mercedes because if I paid so much more it better be able to handle it.

You can use a jeep to mudbog in, or you can use a Shelby Mustang. Which one are you going to use? The Shelby cost more so it should be able to handle it, right?

Not that I'm saying a Hinderer or Sebenza and the like won't handle it, to be honest there's really only one answer to it. Not everyone has to use their expensive knives. If they want to, sure. If not, it's their money and their business.

I'm not trying to hate on it It just doesn't make sense to me the not using it aspect. If I had money I might buy a sebenza because I too love the looks but I would use it the same way as a tac force or a delica or a utility knife because at end of the day scratches give it character, dirt can be cleaned out and I can resharpen it

If you think of knives the same way you think of impact wrenches you are unlikely to post 400 times on a forum dedicated to all things knife. Unless you're REALLY into impact wrenches.

I gave one of my sons an early Schrade LB7 recently, pristine, unused. He thinks that's such a cool thing. To have a knife from when his dad was young.
I think how great it would be to have a knife from when my dad or even better, my grandfather was young.
Absolutely, some of my knives are in the original box and only get looked at.
