Wilderness Photography

SA, Imrahil, Bartlax4, Hasco, VANCE: great additions guys! Such a diverse and beautiful world we live in. I'm seeing some bucket list places I'd love to check off some day.

We had family in town for Easter, including my new sister-in-law who had never been to Colorado before. We took her up to Rocky Mountain National Park to show off our mountains.

You are one lucky guy Thurin for that to be in your backyard! Very nice photos!

SA, Imrahil, Hasco, Vance..some awesome shots as well!

Amazing photography and input from the great photographers on here. I hope this thread keeps growing, tenfold; I've already subscribed. :D

Spent some more time camping in Rocky Mountain National Park (can you tell it's my favorite?).

We're not the only ones that like it here:

The flowers are beautiful:

As are the mountains:

An appropriate response to God's creation:

awesome shots Nathan, the pictures of the mountains are literally picturesque! and really like the capture of your kids, it's a great composition.

these pale in comparison, but recently did a day hike through section of the AT in PA to celebrate my fiance graduating from the seminary (So essentially, had two hiking buddies with me :) ):

Nothing like some of the pics you guys take, but here are a few shots I snapped of Lake Michigan.

Congrats to your fiancé on the graduation Josh! Looks like a great way to celebrate.

dhunley - gotta love the beach. Nice pics with the blue water and blue skies.

Great pics y'all - from the trail to the flowers to the mountains to the sandy beach. All are great ways to spend some summer time outdoors.

Thanks for sharing.

Glad you guys like the pics. Here are a few of Lake Huron that I took last summer.

One of our favorite trips while living in MN was a visit to Mt Rushmore:

A little closer to our current home, a gaggle of Terns hanging out along the beach on Marco Island:

Here's a typical swamp speed bump seen at Big Cypress National Preserve in the Everglades:

And finally a little of the local color.....Royal Poinciana trees are in full bloom now that Summer is right around the corner:

This tree is right down the street from our home......can't help but think of Shadetree Electric Orange knife handles when I see it:

How is it that I was born in MN, and even though I moved away when I was 2, I still go back there at least once or twice a year and have never been to this lighthouse?!?!?!

I know where I'm going on my next trip back.

It will definitely be worth the trip Nathan no matter what time of year. The views are stunning in all seasons. Very nice state park to camp out in if you have the time......then of course there is always the Boundary Waters right up the road :D

Camping with the Hill People Gear folks at their Summer Gathering is becoming a birthday tradition for me. Here are some shots from this past weekend. (sorry if there are too many, it was hard to narrow it down to just these). Unfortunately, I was a complete idiot and was not able to use my nice Nikon DSLR, so all of these are from my iPhone.

This is in the Grand Mesa National Forest in western Colorado. Beautiful country, and quite different from the Front Range mountains you see in most of my posts. We are camping at 8850 feet above sea level here.

First night, at dusk, looking east:

Our tent and my sister's, with the moon providing a nice backdrop:

Looking down at our camp:

I hope you like pictures of wild flowers as much as I do.

I little ways from our camp was a 4x4 trail that went out to a place called "Balm of Gilead Park".

We eat good when car camping:

I woke up to this view every morning:

And ended the days with this:

Panorama of our camp:

West Muddy Forest Ranger Station. I think I'll become a forest ranger in my next life and live out here.

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful vistas Nathan. I agree with you, that Ranger station sure does look like an inviting homestead. Every time I've visited your great state, its always been to the front range. Looks like there's a lot more of Colorado to explore & enjoy. Thanks for sharing and a belated happy birthday !

Fabulous photos Nathan. You have such a vast expanse of beautiful natural landscape in Colorado. Your I-phone pictures did a wonderful job of capturing the scope of how much open space your group had to yourselves away from the crowds. Serene and peaceful are the first two words that come to my mind when looking your pictures. Camping in a spectacular place with family and close friends sounds like a great way to celebrate a birthday. I am glad that the trip lived up to your expectations.

Phil
