Here are the contest rules.

  • [*]You should post just once in this thread and explain why you are attracted to outdoor activities.
[*]Your post number is your number for the contest.
[*]After I feel like the thread has run its course, the winner will be selected by a randomly generated number at random.org.
[*]You should have at least 25 posts in the WS&S subforum. I will check the winner's post count in this subforum. If it's less than 25, I'll just generate another random number.[*]You must be 18 to enter and win. Sorry to the minors who post here, but a knife is involved, and dealing with parental consent is a hassle.
Edited to add:
-The one-post rule is serious. Folks should have only one post/one number to keep the playing field even. Also, chatter in a contest thread can take away a post number that someone else might want, and it makes it harder to find a winner sometimes. So... one post.
- I originally noted that you need to be a member in good standing, but I deleted that requirement. Though I'd love to see folks support BFC, you can be a Registered User as long as you have the requisite 25 posts.

.

BONUS time!
I'm also going to toss in a couple of activated carbon "emergency" hand warmers and three sticks of fatwood
.

I love the outdoors because it allows me to give my Horton the beating it deserves and make tongs to flip chicken and corn. Guyon,I like your color coordinated blaze orange collection better.:D

Ill chime in here, thanks for the opportunity btw.

What attracted me to the outdoors is rather simple. Other than the splendid beauty of God's creations and our human inate instinct to be one with nature I come from a family of outdoorsmen on both sides. My grandfathers were hunters and fishermen. Of course that trickled down to their kids and on down to me. I heard stories from my grandfathers taking my dad and mom hunting/fishing and their siblings as well. Growing up i had uncles and cousins and my dad took me fishing and hunting. Camping was a basic must for some of those trips. none of them were deep woods only bc my dad worked 60hrs + a week so he had very little time for a large portion of my life to do that kind of camping and adventure. now that he doesnt work those kinds of hours we have gotten closer. we get to fish more and etc.. my plan thats in the works is to take my dad camping. we never got to camp much as said before due to his massive work load growing up.. he loves to camp. His work load is lighter now so a father son camping trip is under way and these items i would give to him for part of his camping supplies. he would be tickled i know.

I feel an incredible responsibility to teach my boys about the outdoors, what they are able to do there and just as vitally, what they should not do there. Instilling a level of comfort in those who depend upon us is something that none should take lightly, and aside from the fact that I truly love being in the woods, being there with my boys is even more satisfying, especially when I can see them grow in their knowledge and surprise me every day with what they've picked up...

Many of my ancestors were self-reliant folks who knew their way around in the woods--the ones I knew and the ones I never met. My grandpa took me camping since before I remember, we did a lot of camping and fishing together until I went to college. My dad was also an avid outdoorsman who was a Scout and encouraged me in the Scouting program. Besides wanting the skills to be self-reliant myself and thrive under any conditions, woodcraft makes me more like my ancestors and bridges another connection to them.

Now I've got kids of my own that I'm teaching, and wilderness training is a part of my heritage that I'm passing down to them.

Thanks for the giveaway. This is an interesting thread.

I love the woods/outdoors because I've grown up in it! Living on Mount Desert Island being surrounded by Acadia National Park really helps out. :p Honestly I think it's just in my blood. Our ancestors were never OUT of the wilderness--it just really makes me feel at ease. Developing wilderness skills makes me feel more self reliant as well, knowing that I don't have to rely upon electricity, oil, or other such technological "wonders," even if I DO appreciate their convenience. :)

Thanks for the giveaway--that 510 looks mighty tempting!

Great giveaway Guyon. That set up would be perfect for my nephew. I finally convinced his mother (My wife's sister) that he's old enough and I'm responsible enough to take him out over night.

Basically, I love outdoor activities because they are outdoors. I spend my working day and practically all evenings at home. There's nothing like getting up before dawn to drive to a mountain/lake/river on a Saturday morning. Being out of the city and somewhere peaceful and clean (Or at least cleaner) is why I love it.

What attracts me to the outdoors? The smell, the taste, the feeling? It is a refreshing and calming place, something to grab ahold of when things feel like they are sliding away. It is at once and anchor and an escape.

What a great thread -- thanks!

Wilderness allows me to both get outside, and inside, myself in a way that isn't possible in normal "civilized" life. I love that sense of both being a very small part of a big world, but also capable of moving through it.

And now, after that nice thought, begrudgingly back to work....

;- )

I love feeling like I am part of nature as it were. not trapped in a concrete cage, with all of the noise and commitments. I like to get away and enjoy what is left of the natural world, to see it as my grandparents saw it when they first got here, as much as that is possible, and marvel at how people carved out a living in this country. If my number comes up I'll be giving the prize to a buddy of mine who just had all his gear stolen while on vacation in NZ.

What attracts me to the wilderness is the stillness of it. Now hussle or bussle. No car horns, no groups of people chattering about on cell phones. For me it all comes down to that moment when you stop, stand still, and you can hear the wind blowing through the leaves and into your face. I've never been more comfortable and at peace than when hanging out in nature.

" I been to a city."

actually, quote is:

"I've been to a town, Del."

As a kid I could never get enough of the outdoors. I can't stand to be couped up inside. Everything I enjoy doing is outdoors as well like hunting, fishing, camping, offroading, hiking and other things. Being outdoors just always made sense to me. There is just to much beauty in the world to not go exploring

Some of my earliest memories were going hunting with my dad. I feel comfortable and at home in the woods.

Thanks for the chance to win this gear.

I like the outdoors because it gives me a place to go where i can get back to the basics of life. I also enjoy being with friends and family and the outdoors is a great place to do that.

Thanks for the chance.

Mike

Firstly, CONGRATS on your 25,000th post that is amazing.
I love the outdoors because it reminds us humans that we are actually animals, and to never forget where we came from. For this reason it makes myself respect nature and the other animals much more.

I love the outdoors, very simply because, its the time that I feel most alive. I forget all the day to day crap that clogs most of our lives. Everything comes down to basics. Shelter, food, water.

Thanks for the contest! I love the outdoors because it tests me. Anytime I set foot in Nature i have to use all my senses, be aware of my surroundings. It's a good feeling . . .

Congratulations on 25K bro!

I don't want to enter your giveaway, even though it is quite generous. Thanks anyway.
