While there are mountain lions in the area, I think if one had made this kill it would have dragged it off to a secluded spot. This pronghorn was found about 8 meters away from a tree line. Not in the picture is the stomach which was pulled apart but not eaten. The other viscera were consumed. There was a fair amount of blood in the area (everything was frozen solid), so I'm guessing she went down here.

Last year I saw a couple badgers not far from this spot. A neighbor who had a successful antelope hunt had his antelope head stolen by a badger. He heard a noise and went outside only to find a badger making off with the antelope head. He threw a stick at the badger, but when the badger just seemed to get pissed off, my neighbor went back inside. (Why he left the head outside at night I still don't understand.) So badgers and foxes could have helped clean up the carcass. My money is on coyotes though. I've seen them stalking and chasing Pronghorn before.

Hey was it a Coyote??? NO wait, thats what killed it......
I agree..a mountain lion would have dragged that off and stored in a tree or something. Coyote is my guess.
Awesome post by the way, thanks for such a great offer. Gene

Thanks to Rotte for his kindness. Fun contest. I spent a lot of time hunting Pronghorn in my youth in Wyo.

Good guess and congratulations again. I'll send the puppy out come Monday.

My brother carried one of these while deployed to Iraq and found it to be pretty useful; hope you enjoy it!

And I was sure it was Oreortyx pictus.....

Coyote have my vote, I saw the same work on a whitetail last fall. Is this also a case where they fed on one side and ignored the other? If so, it must be common behavior...

The neighbor set up a trail cam over the whitetail.....
