Win Ringed Gidgee Scales! - Burl Source Wood Photo Contest

Those are all nice looking knives, it's a good thing you don't have to judge them, that would be tough.

If I had to judge them, everyone would win, I would run out of wood and my boss would have me institutionalized. As it stands, at least I won't run out of wood.

Thanks for the entry. That is some good looking wood you are putting up for grabs.

The wood actually looks better in real life. The wood is darker and the figure is so intense that you would expect the surface to feel like a ridged wash board. I got this from Adam Parker from Australia. He sent me some cool stuff that we rarely see here in the states. I send him stuff that is hard for him to get and he does the same for me.

Mike,
How far are you from Pasadena? There is a knife show at the Expo center on the 19-21st. It's supposed to be a good one. Maybe the wife and I will see you there.

Mike made this one using stabilized Spalted Maple.

Here is one using some of that really dense redwood burl that was cut in the 40's. This is the best picture that I got before I donated it to the Arkansas Knifemakers Association for next years show.

I just found another shot so here it is:

Here is a new photo. This one was taken by Chuck Ward.

I wish I could go, but it is a 6 hour drive for me. I was just down there for a funeral a couple of weeks ago and typical busy life means I am not going for the show. Maybe next year. Hope you enjoy it. Maybe on your way down you should stop by and give me a preview....:D

Here's one I did a few weeks back using buckeye burl from Mark.

I don't need to win any of my own wood but i thought i would let people see what Marks Gidgee scales look like on a knife. This one is an 8" chef's knife done in ATS-34, nickelsilver bolsters and ofcourse Ringed Gidgee scales from the same block that Marks was cut from, hope you like it.;)
