Winner...And Still Heavyweight Champion...The Venerable Buck 110

Hi folks! I'm "new" (but as you can see it's been a while since I reg.) to this forum and while I'm waiting for my first 110 and my first Buck, I've been reading this thread with great interest. I got some smaller benchmade knives and hoping the 110 will make me as happy as they have. Just wanted to say hello from Sweden!

Welcome Hartman,

You'll see and hear some great 110 stuff here. Just watch and see.

Finally I got it!! My very own 110. Nothing special about it just a plain good, and rather hefty, 110. I really like it. So off course it’s special!!!
Unfortunately the sheath wasn’t leather, but hey it’s not a big deal. It can be bought!
46 dollars for it including shipping from the US to Sweden. Still it’s just a third of what it would have cost to buy it here.

I’ll try it out this weekend out in the woods. Now I just have to find the post with the data of what year the symbols on the blade stands for…. Mine got an arrow (->) to the right of the 110. Any ideas?

Damn I want another one, a custom and a 112 and a leather sheath made by Gary W Graley….

here is a rare one
110 fixed blade made early in the first year of the custom shop
Joe has only seen one about 10 years ago
click and click again for high res

Joe Houser has only seen one and wants to see this one
they were made in the custom shop for fellow employees
when they were allowed to ask for a yearly knife most times
as i understand it each anversary they were alowed to ask for a knife
and on 5 year events they could order a real custom
leroy recalls making this knife and who he made it for
so this was a real early one and is odd with the dot stamp and the
4 scale pin handle is rare .. it was a set they had and the pins looked neat so
they used it..

Dave, did it come with a special sheath?

A full tang construction fixed blade 110. I didn't even know they existed until your photos. I wonder what other treasures were produced by the old custom shop.

Very nice 110 Dave! I did not know they existed either!

With the discussion of the workmanlike 301 recently and my offline conversations with 300Bucks, I thought it might be a good time to reintroduce the heavyweight champ as it were.

Standing 4 7/8" and weighing in at a massive 7 3/8 ounces, the venerable Buck 110 still appears ready to take on all comers aspiring to take the crown.

My only example is this (late 90's as I recall) version which was assembled with a Master Series BG-42 blade, Frenchwood (laminated) scales and polished nickel silver bolsters. Probably (to this day) the sharpest production knife out of the box I've ever received:

Feel free to share images of your own version of the king of beasts.

Very good looking 110 there. Have a question - what is the 'green wood' or Frenchwood used on this knife? Thanks.

Anyone know, how can I buy a Buck knive in EU? Maybe online or other way? :S
The original Buck homepage have only US delivery...

My buddy Zeke passed away last year and before he left asked me to help his wife sell his "stuff". Inside the gun safe were quite a few knives but I bought this 110V, he carried it and one of the scales has three small notches for deer. Anyone know what kind of horn the scales on this 110V were made of?

A few weeks go his wife was cleaning out a closet and found a Sport Afield 100th Anniversary 7 knife set, two were Bucks, a skinner and a 110. Bone scrimshawed scales and gold by Aurum, one of a hundred.

My son has one that I just had custom work done on by STR, (see the thread here for the link), and I broke my Buck 110 back in the early 80s/late 70s when I was a teenager, and think it may still be in a box at my parents house. But now that my father is deceased I can't ask him where it is. I may look for it and see if I can send it in for the "lifetime warranty"...that would be pretty neat, as my father originally gave it to me and having a 110 was/is a family tradition.

I found and bought a used Schrade Uncle Henry that looked just like it and fit the leather sheath to replace it, but it wasn't the same as having the same knife as my dad. I could always just get his knife which is still on a shelf in the kitchen with the blade about 1/2 gone from years of sharpening and skinning animals. He kept that knife and a Schrade folder sharpened and ready for fish and game always and would swap out during a job if it was a large animal such as a deer.

I miss my dad and appreciate the things he taught me, and really didn't realize how much I appreciated him until after he was gone.

Great pics - my only regret is that I gave my first version 110 from the mid 60's to a friend who was going to be living in Alaska for a time- I hope he still has it!
Peace
