Nice looking knife.

What's the handle material?

There's that odd "stamp" again.

Is that the way they're marking all the CS 110s these days or just the S30V???

been thinking about getting one of these puppies, I hear lots of bad things about the lock though..how it will close on you if you whack the spine against anything. Any truth to the weak lock thing?

Whoever you heard that from was obviously drunk or deranged or most likely both. The 110 pioneered, set the pace and continues to be the gold standard of folding lockbacks. There is absolutely no truth in a weak lock statement. If you wack the spine against something, be prepared for that thing to have sustained damage of some sort, the 110 is like a vault.

btw-run as soon as you can to get one!

Where do you guys get these BG42 and custom shop ones? I like the one with black buffalo horn.

I have one, it has sentimental value and I wish I had a pic of it, the handles are worn, it has a place on one where something hit it good, the blade had a nick in it that is mostly honed out, the tip is slightly rounded now. Sheath cold be in a lot better shape. It was my father's. He had a new one that we bought him for a bithday when I had to be under 11 or 12. He never carried it preferring to carry the old one. When it came time I gave my brother the new one and kept the old one. it's in the nightstand next to my bed. it doesn't get a lot of use (I'd hate to lose it in the field). May be time to buy another one to hand down to my kids.

You won't find the BG42 bladed 110s(new ones),sadly, anymore. You'll have to buy one off a collector,or shop evil bay. But,you can have the Buck Custom Shop build you a custom 110 with a buffalo horn handle and S30V blade. You can find them online.

Yeah, but do we want to buy a powder steel like S30V?

Buck should abandon the mass-market steel and get back to real premium steels and raise the price to a point where they make money.

There's a darn good reason BG-42 110s are going for $250 while S30V gets a collective yawn from the knife cognoscenti.

I love s30v steel,I still have some brand new never used bg-42 re-blades that i don't even think about, maybe i'll get one out for a user.

I bought a 110 in the 80's for canoe tripping. I had been carrying a 102 fixed blade, and wanted a knife of similar size that would be less obtrusive on the belt, not hang up on gunwales, etc. I only used it a few times since I never cared for the sharp edges on the handle when I was using it. Having read here you can still get them for $30 at Wal-Mart, I did just that..and what a difference! The new 110, even though it is the cheapest version of that knife available, is perfect. The rounded edges make all the difference for me. It makes me want to get into a canoe again.

Oh, and it was my second recent Buck purchase. I had bought a Vantage, because I wanted to try a modern, one handed, lightweight liner lock. It's also a nice knife, but I think you could use a 110 to chop up a Vantage.

My Buck 110 (it´s made in 2008) was with me some time ago on an excurse, I had to do for my job. So we were there and there was a kitchen, but no working knife. None had a sharping stone with him. I forgot mine at home.

The 110 was pretty sharp. So we´ve used that excellent knife for cooking, grilling and so on ... (But by eating this was MY knife :D :D )

I´d never like to miss that one. I´m still thinking about buying another one of theese choppers if I´ll ever loose this one...

Kind regards
Andi

I love the S30v steel also, I'd rather not EDC my BG42 as it is worth too much to risk losing I think. They are rare and hence the high price. I wonder what BG42 reblades cost a while back??
I've been EDC ing a S30v I customized for some time and the edge retention and sharpness are very nice.

Jerad, the re-blades were $35 and that included a complete spa treatment on the knife also.It was a great deal, and i wore out a 110 "buckcote"blade and since the stopped using the single edge "buckcote"I got a bg-42 blade on that one also.BG-42 is some great steel ,BOS heat treated makes it even better!

Here is my 110 that I picked up in 1995 that I later had tuned up a bit more to my liking. I had file work done to the brass bolsters as well as the spine of the blade, plus a lanyard hole with a Sterling Silver slide pull for the ornamental leather lace that gives it a little more flair. The satin finish has been removed from the clip blade and buffed to a mirror polish. The sheath is a handmade open top style made by an unknown maker that I picked up second hand from Florida.

Cheers,
Serge

What might one expect to pay for a reasonable condition 110 from around the 1969-70 period (certainly before any dots or dashes were being used) please?

I don't have any real collector 110s, but I like the design and the Walmart price so much that over the last few years I've picked one up every now and then. I now have 3 Walmart 110s around here (and a 4th Buck Founders Edition 110 in the tin), and my son has two. Although I've read some of the Internet stories about spine-whack lock failures, I've just never found that to be an issue when using the 110 for its intended purpose...like field dressing the two deer I shot this deer season. The 110 made for a quick, easy job on both deer, the spine never once got whacked, and the 420HC is still nice and sharp after being used on a variety of things.

Gents (and ladies),

Trying to post a pic of my beautiful 1972 110. Do I have to do that from a URL or am I missing something?
