**WINNER ANNOUNCED (see post 61)**
---
So I’m about to become a dad. In recognition that I’m not going to be going camping anytime soon and in anticipated thanks for the excellent company you’re all going to provide while I’m up late at night trying to get the little one back to sleep, I’ve decided to give away one of my favourite outdoor knives.

I bought this a few years ago at the Adelaide Knife Show here in South Australia. It’s hand made from an old file and has laminated timber scales. It comes with a very secure heat-moulded synthetic sheath which also has a loop for a fire steel and a slot for the striker (included).

Let's see if I can get some pic's working...

(bacon not included, and yes it was delicious)

This knife has been used, sharpened, built a patina, had the patina removed, scratched and above all enjoyed. While it’s fairly basic it’s also very functional. I love this knife but since I won’t be using it as it deserves any time soon I’ve decided to set it free and send it on to a good home.

On to entry conditions:
- My wife and I are having a difficult time coming up with a name for our soon-to-be little bundle of screaming, pooing joy. So I want to see name suggestions for a boy or girl. The reason why you like or are suggesting that name gets bonus points. Wilderness photos also get bonus points (but not required). Let's keep it to one entry per person. Winner is whoever makes the post I like the most, but this DOES NOT mean you’ll be naming my child ;)

I’ll pick a winner when we have enough name ideas. This could be in two days or could be in a week.

To enter you must be:
- At least 18 years old (sorry for the young’uns here but I don’t want to anger any parents or break any laws)
-In some country which has a postal service - yes I will probably be forking out for overseas shipping and I'm cool with that. This place has been good to me.
- Legally able to receive and own the knife
- A Bladeforums member who joined before 1 August 2014
- Have at least 25 posts of value in the forums (ie not just sales threads)
- Will use the knife as it should be used (getting it dirty and scratched-up outdoors) or will give it to someone who will.
- Not be vegan. My giveaway, my rules :)

Well...not an entry only 'cause I've won a few giveaways.

Dave because I'm an egotistical thing.

The only real reason for posting this... Sarah for the girls name because it's my daughter's and her mother and I spent months "discussing" it. I like the name.

Congratulations on the toughest job you'll ever love.

If God didn't want us eating animals, why did he make them out of meat?

I choose Barry.....
BARRY MARSHALL (from Wikipedia)
Barry Marshall is one of Australia's great heroes, because he put his own health on the line to prove a theory others wouldn't believe. And it won him a Noble Prize with his fellow researcher Robin Warren. In 1984, to prove stomach ulcers weren't caused by stress or spicy food but were rather a bacterium, he swallowed a glass of the concoction (Helicobacter pylori). When he became sick and developed gastritis (which leads to ulcers and cancer) he treated himself with antibiotics and cured himself. Millions of people suffer from stomach ulcers and now it can be easily treated.
Your new baby will occasionally have an upset tummy, and he will often give you and Mum an upset tummy, but you can rest assured that stomach ulcers will never be more than a temporary nuisance. And, may he grow up to be a hero in your eyes,...and you a hero in his.
If I "win"...please give the knife to the next deserving person.
God bless us all...

I'm in USA so save your shipping. Not an entry. But this sounds fun!

Congratulations!

I'm 40, legal, been here a couple years, would use it if it was mine, and vegetables are my foods food!

That's said:

Girl=Sydney. Cause I love Australia, and it's my daughters name (not because I love AU though lol). Sydney Alexis.

Boy=Mason Wayne. Don't know why, but I like it. If Sydney was a girl, that would have been her name.

Fwiw, the late night feeding and putting back to sleep is one of my favorite memories from her being a baby. I did a lot of that. Now she's 3 going on 20 it seems. Still a cuddle bug but only on her terms. And we know how women can be....

Cool contest;
Sara- classic as is Mary
John, Mark, Julian, Michael, Leon (from the Professional), buddy named his son Barrett a while back, cool but not sure the Wife will roll that way.

I prefer the classics, spelled simply and want to call the kid what I name them (ie; don't name them John Robert Smith III and then call them Tri; as in being the 3rd).

Watch the initials! Don't want a daughter with initials like S&M.

Could go with a cool middle name like Speed. Then the boy could say, "Don't worry, my middle name is Speed". Great if you're a racing family and the middle name is pretty much a throw away these days. Middle name is also a great place to appease the family if you don't go the Speed route ie; her maiden name or the rich, childless uncle who may through cash his/her way :-)

Hope that helps. In the end the Wife has veto power so don't push it much.

First and foremost congratulations on your baby! it is a complete life changer..in the good way!
vegan? im so far from vegan i tried to be bulimic once and almost ate my arm...lol any on to the show...
Boy- Judge Steele (insert last name) i came up with this name many years ago for some game i used to play and unfortunately i had a girl (see below)
Girl- Phaedra Ixchell (insert last name) this one is pronounced fadera ishell like michelle with no m..this name is a combination of phaedra (a name of a naked woman in a magazine i once saw) and ixchell that was the middle name of my JR high crush..so needless to say my wife wasnt going for this name for my daughter who ended up being hannah gail..lol

I don't mind the name but if we have a girl I'm not sure my wife would want to name our kid after your high school crush either ;)

Thanks for the ideas and advice so far - and the photos I'm seeing are getting my jealousy levels rising! :D

Love the bacon and Vegan rule, that should become BladeForums policy!

I will put forth the name Angelo... Long story:

I work with an Italian company and a really cool guy here is named Angelo. He's in his 40's and the youngest of his siblings. His parents had moved from Italy to Australia about 60 years ago and had 3 kids while they were there. With the first two kids they were talked into giving them "Australian" names (Mary and John or something similar) but on their last kid they really wanted an Italian name so they picked Angelo and their Australian friends agreed it was a good name. They moved back to Italy when Angelo was 10 and he now has a name (and passport) that is good in both countries!

Michael and Katherine... Both names are dear to me for personal reasons. I have 3 kids... Get ready not to sleep brother!

Congratulations on the upcoming baby. If this is your first I hope it's a boy but as long as it's healthy that is all that really counts.

For a boy I like REX which is king in Latin. For the girl I really like CHRISTINA which is obvious with your name being Chris and she being daddy's girl.

That bacon looks awesome! Meaty as hell and low fat which is how I like it! You can't have too much good quality bacon.

Picture below is of a black bear mother and cub beneath my tree stand last year while deer hunting bordering the Big Cypress Swamp in south Florida.
