WINNER ANNOUNCED "I've Been Used" - The Giveaway

Okay so I reckon it's time to announce a winner.

First, thanks to everyone who played along, offered names (even if they were that of a girl you liked in school or your favourite piece of sporting equipment ;) ), gave parenting advice or posted photos.

Second, I'm not sure how this became an "evidence I'm not vegan" thread but with the photos I saw I'm really glad it did! Some of you can expect recipe requests :D

I reckon there are some honourable mentions in order too:

- Sonnydaze (post 3): Barry (also known as “Bazza”) is a damn good Aussie name and I have to respect anyone who drinks something disgusting for the benefit of mankind.

- Jill Jackson (post 5) and jeffsenpai (post 53): Thank you for those wonderful photos of the scenery where you live. I am incredibly jealous.

- Spameater12003 (post 31): for saving your son from a lifetime of shame from being named after someone in a romance novel. I applaud you Sir.

- Bigfattyt (post 47): you really took to the "no vegans" rule with gusto!

The winner though, is crafty (post 58). I've got nephews so I know that kind of pride. And I have to say if it's a girl "Amalia" may just be a contender :) Email in-bound and I hope you enjoy the knife!

Great giveaway. I think I actually held back..... I did not post the cow butchering photos did I?

Congrats! Enjoy that knife!

And Chris - enjoy that new baby! You've really gotta "soak it up" man. They are only little once, devote all the time you can to your children. It will be the most rewarding and special thing you could ever do with your life.

Congrats crafty - Amalia is a beautiful name for a girl. Great give away. Lots of fun. And most important - congrats to our soon to be new dad Chris and his wife (wayeff in Aussie speak aye mate). OP better deliver with pics!

Just got back from an awesome weekend. Slept under my tarp, swimming in the ocean, good time with family (who slept in the house). And the birthday of my little nephew. He already enjoyed his piggy bank (especially throwing money inside). Now reading my mail and seeing I also won this giveaway. I feel lucky. Thank you very much! As promised I will post an update as soon as it arrives, with pics in use.

Once more congrats with becoming father!

Best of wishes and congrats again on becoming a parent. Wishing you many pleasant memories to come.

Last week I received the package in the mail. Quite curious like a little kid to open my present. It was nicely packed, and ooh with extra goodies too. I'm spoiled!
The contents: the knife with sheet, firesteel and scraper. Very famous Australian Haigh's chocolates and Vegemite. Wonderful, and looking forward to try it all! And I love strange foods I don't know ;) The chocolates are very nice and the Vegemite is a savory spread you can put on sandwiches (makes me think of Marmite).

The knife with sheet and firesteel. The firesteel fits nicely in the sheet and some bungee cord attached to the scraper ensures it doesn't drop out. The sheet is a home moulded plastic sheet. It secures the knife well and is effective. I noticed there isn't a drain hole at the bottom so will probably make one (I guess we get more rain here than in Australia). For the looks I like leather sheets for practical reasons I like plastic ones.

The handle is very nice in hand and looks good too.

A large part of the spine has been rounded. I like the looks. And it feels nice when carving. The blade is 4.5 cm thick and 11.6 cm long, overall length is 23.8 cm.

I polished the knife a bit. The mirror polish isn't perfect yet, but already effective. And now it is razor sharp. I took the knife with me for a walk in the forest here. Some boletalus below.

Helping to spread the spores of a common earthball ;) It chopped the top part of in one swing.

Making some fine shavings and curls on a stick. Worked nice, but need to get used to the blade geometry (it's convex and I often use scandi)

Found a dead birch tree, so great to try the firesteel. I made a nice pile of shavings from the bark. I often tend to use here the squared back of my knife to safe the blade edge. Now I had to use the edge because the spine is rounded. Its great making shavings while reinforcing the blade with your other hand, and since the spine is rounded it is very comfortable to hold. Time to use the firesteel with striker, bingo!

Some more shavings from a dead pine tree. Very easy to work with two hands, and comfy to hold the rounded spine.

Hey what's that line in the wood?

Oh yeah; fatwood! Time for some more shavings then and try the firesteel. I like making fire :D

My nose told me I was close to something. So a little search in the area and I found these guys; a common stinkhorn and checking under the leaves I found a witch's egg. Cut it in half and ate the center.

Since this topic had to do something with meat, well I couldn't resist ;)

Thanks again for this great knife. I'm definitely gonna use this baby much more often ;) Speaking of baby's; Enjoy mate!

Love the update and congrats again crafty! Good too see such a beautiful knife put to good use!

Thanks for the update Crafty :) it's great to see the knife being put to such good use. It's great to know that it has found a good home on the other side of the world.

This is good reading after a very long night - our little girl was born last week. She needed some very minor treatment in hospital for jaundice, last night was her first night back home and she did not want to sleep :)

I have also realized that hosting giveaways is a lot of fun. I've already started planning the next one :D
