Girl: Molly (means wished for child)
Boy: Brant (means proud)

Congratulations on the baby! My wife is trying desperately to talk me into another, but I am holding fast for now:)

My wife just suggested James if a boy and Elizabeth if of the better sex.

As far as the name meaning something. If you remember I suggested Rebekah because that is my 19 y.o. daughters name. I got that name out of the bible. I gave my daughter that name figuring that it might help her through the rough teenage years. She recently told me that she loves her name and it has been a great help to her growing up. I love it when a plan comes together!

Not an entry.

I just thought I'd say congratulations on the child! Such an amazing thing it is. Enjoy him/her while they are so little. The newborn stage goes by heartbreakingly quickly.

Girl- Phoenix (my 13 year old is named Phoenix and it has been an awesome name for her!)

Boy- Anthony (yes, that's my name, but it's been good to me, if a little plain)

So I’m about to become a dad. In recognition that I’m not going to be going camping anytime soon and in anticipated thanks for the excellent company you’re all going to provide while I’m up late at night trying to get the little one back to sleep, I’ve decided to give away one of my favourite outdoor knives.

I bought this a few years ago at the Adelaide Knife Show here in South Australia. It’s hand made from an old file and has laminated timber scales. It comes with a very secure heat-moulded synthetic sheath which also has a loop for a fire steel and a slot for the striker (included).

Let's see if I can get some pic's working...

(bacon not included, and yes it was delicious)

This knife has been used, sharpened, built a patina, had the patina removed, scratched and above all enjoyed. While it’s fairly basic it’s also very functional. I love this knife but since I won’t be using it as it deserves any time soon I’ve decided to set it free and send it on to a good home.

On to entry conditions:
- My wife and I are having a difficult time coming up with a name for our soon-to-be little bundle of screaming, pooing joy. So I want to see name suggestions for a boy or girl. The reason why you like or are suggesting that name gets bonus points. Wilderness photos also get bonus points (but not required). Let's keep it to one entry per person. Winner is whoever makes the post I like the most, but this DOES NOT mean you’ll be naming my child ;)

I’ll pick a winner when we have enough name ideas. This could be in two days or could be in a week.

To enter you must be:
- At least 18 years old (sorry for the young’uns here but I don’t want to anger any parents or break any laws)
-In some country which has a postal service - yes I will probably be forking out for overseas shipping and I'm cool with that. This place has been good to me.
- Legally able to receive and own the knife
- A Bladeforums member who joined before 1 August 2014
- Have at least 25 posts of value in the forums (ie not just sales threads)
- Will use the knife as it should be used (getting it dirty and scratched-up outdoors) or will give it to someone who will.
- Not be vegan. My giveaway, my rules :)

This is not an entry - I have quite a few knives in that size range...

I just wanted to say that is some EPIC BACON! I bet it really WAS delicious. Damn, now I want a BLT! Mmmmm, bacon....

Well here are my suggestions, Elton for a boy--just cause it's unique, and the name of one of the greatest musicians of all times, and Kerla for a girl, that's a name I heard/read in Scotland when I was there on a golf trip--before the hospital tried to kill me, and put me in a coma, and killed all the nerves in my feet :( . One thing I have done to help get back to strength, is to eat a lot of MEAT--especially BACON!
I love knives out of files...
This is a shot of my buddy by a rock outcropping in Kansas, we thought it looked cool, and had a hole where we speculated a cougar should live! We were there hunting for Whitetail, another meat source!

Peppa for a girl, and George for a boy. My boys love the show. I think either name would be sound great rolling off the tongue with an Australian accent.

Meat?
One of my favorite Mexican food dishes Molcajatete

Bacon wrapped peppers, stuffed with goat cheese.

The chicken Kabobs are marinated in two different sauces. Devils Spit (spicy habanero BBQ, and another super spicy Asian Sauce on the other).

Pork Tenderloin with an Asian sauce

Pork Tenderloin with with Spicy Korean BBQ sauce

How about some meat on the hoof?

This is my older son (8 at the time) at a cow roundup holding the hind legs while the branding gets done.

My wife Tagging.....

Where is my younger son during all this fun? He said the cows were too loud, and went back to hang out in the tent.

"I'm just gonna hang out here and play with my Dinosaurs..........!"

Done! Time to go home

What I'm seeing so far is fantastic. There are a couple of front runners (for different reasons) but this is going to be a tough pick. At this stage I'm thinking of winding up on around Friday, assuming my wife isn't in labor then (otherwise it might be a couple days more).

The scenery shots are making me really happy and really jealous - I live in a two bedroom unit near the middle of the Adelaide CBD and miss living on land.

Also, whoever gets the knife will also be told the name of the maker. I was thinking about posting his name but I've noticed he doesn't really have any internet presence and I want to respect that in case he likes his own privacy. What I can say is my impression was he has a larger than life personality, is loud, outspoken and blunt - everything we love in a knife maker :)

Well here are a few names that I like. I imagine it will be no easy choice to decide on a name for you and your wife. I remember my parents both thought about a few before they decided on mine. :p
Boy~ Nathan, David, Nolan, Alex.

Girl~ Sydney, Alexandria, Ashley, Natasha.
Best wishes on becoming a parent! I'd love to give that knife a good home and use as well.
Here is a picture of a historic building by a walking trail near me. It was Grain Elevator and dates from 1931 and is the oldest surviving commercial building in our city. It is very beautiful and relaxing when it is lit up at night. Thought I'd share.

For a boy, I'd probably try to convince my wife (if I had one, it would be pretty easy since she would have already proven poor judgement by marrying me :D )
to let me name him after 2 of the greatest knife companies ever Kabar or Cattaraugus. Kabar would just be really cool, and with Cattaraugus, you have a couple of good candidates fo nicknames - Cat and Gus. And you would be pretty much guaranteed no other kid would have the name.

For a girl, I've always been partial to Athena, Greek goddess of war and wisdom.

Proof of my non-vegan status is glitched. For some reason the directory holding all my BBQ pictures is fuzzed up and I can't upload them!!!!??? :(

Congrats. For a boy, James is a classic tried and true name. and for a girl, Marina has always been a favorite of mine.

Enjoy the photo of the valley I live in, in the spring while it's green a beautiful.

I will give this GAW a try. For a boy I would choose Walter(Walt, Wally). I am a big fan of Disney and Walt was a good guy. I really like the name I think it is unique and not used very often. For a girl I would choose the name Lily it is not only the name of Walt's wife but it is also my favorite flower.

Here are two of my favorite pictures.

My family's last name was James. Till the Canadian boarding schools had one to many Davids in the class. So they renamed my great grand father James David for there convenience.

thanks for the gaw in the usa my recommendation for names are steve and terri as the crocodile hunter and his wife are a Australian thing so i thought about that in his memory i guess

A couple(ish) days to go before I pick a winner so I thought I'd flick this back into public view...that's my way of saying we still haven't settled/agreed on a name yet...
Also I'll be seeing what I can do to add some local SA non-knife goodness to the package as well. Might need a bigger box.

Congratz on becoming a father and congratz to your wife too! Hope to have that luck someday too.

I'm in on this one. The knife looks really nice. Great kit you're offering! Thanks for this opportunity. It will definitely get used, not only in the outdoors but as I see it performs well with bacon and such too :) Yummie!

Names, well for a boy it should be Luca. It's the name of my little nephew. He just turned 2 and I made him this week a piggy bank from wood. I love the little guy. My brother and his wife already appointed me to do the fun outdoor stuff, camping, bushcraft and climbing :) I'm already looking so much forward to this, but enjoying already a lot know. Also thinking a lot which knife I could give him and when. Would be awesome to go in the outdoors with him and bringing this knife too. Would be a lovely story for a knife and maybe one day a great gift to him once he has the right age. By the way I like Andrew also a lot for a boys name.
For a girl, Amalia. Just resonates in me when I hear it. Can't explain.

The piggy bank is made from birch. Because of aging and 'fungi' you get some lovely patterns in the wood, but still strong. Hollowing it out was quite some work. I burned the name Luca on the outside. The varnish is still wet and needs another layer, but I'm already happy how it turned out. It really improves the color tones giving it more warmth. One day he might need an axe to open it and see whats written inside ;)

Another project I'm working on. A spoon made from bamboo and a bowl made from black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia). I expect the bowl will have some beautiful patterns in it, but because I picked this section for the patterns it is extremely tough, used an axe and saw to get it in shape. A knife didn't do much here. Then burned a hole with coals, which took 2 days. It will still need many hours of work before it is finished, but I'm enjoying it. Check the little strawberry in the back ;)
