WINNERS ANNOUNCED - See page 4 post 66.

What better way to remember Roland and that is to have a nice user of Roland's in your pocket that you aren't scared of using, the reason why I chose these Knives is that they have been used and are not Mint so they will be used and suit the Give-away, they still look absolutely neat and when I use a Knife that has been gifted to me and I use it, I quietly thank that person, so I would be extremely pleased that if you would win one of these is - to use it and perhaps under your breath "Cheers Roland matey'.

There are Three Knives, all under the theme of Sears & Roebuck, I purchased a lot of Knives from Roland over the past few years, like many of Roland's friends out there- I enjoyed immensely our phone calls and e-mails.
Roland passed away before he got to see the 2022 Sept. issue of the Knife Magazine Article that I had the utmost pleasure to buddy up with very well known Author Mr. Neal Punchard, Neal - who is a terrific person mentored me through many areas and in his wonderful nature guided me back on track when I strayed from our target, it was a fantastic learning experience, and I am sure Roland would have been chuffed to see many of his Knives shown in the pages - I know this for sure.

To enter please have a history of at least 20 Traditional Folders and Fixed Blade Forum, If you had the pleasure of Knowing Roland OR Knowing of Roland - please come in and share a story of Roland - perhaps you bought some Knives off him, saw him in the past - knife shows - who knows - please share anything positive that you have- as I know there is a lot out there who have had great dealings with our friend Roland. If you didn't Know Roland, well come on in and enter and you will probably find out more about Roland more than likely because you just may have one of his Knives :)

Post either I am in, or share a story your posts will be put into a hat and Sue will pick out the Winners at some later date of which I will keep you posted.

1st Knife
is a Ulster Made Craftsman 4 Bladed Senator @ a peek over 3 inches closed, "Forged USA " a Sears Brand name on the Tang.

Wonderfully built that only handling will have you appreciate this Knife to the extent it deserves, a tight nest of four blades waiting for your touch of an edge- once you have put a nice edge on - you have begun the journey of getting to know the Knife and to be part of this Knife's History.
A real neat coin pocket carry with Gorgeous Bone...
Shown in the middle in 1st Photo..

2nd Knife, A Craftsman Sta-Sharp Camillus Made Knife with Camillus's sweetheart of a Spiral punch, again beautifully made, and Roland's ex Knife here begs to be carried, I am sure if Roland was viewing he would be so chuffed to see his Knives being used.
Slightly bigger than the above Ulster @ 3 & 3/8ths, again...spend a wee bit of time- put an edge on theses blades and you are on the road to enjoying such a great wee Knife.

3rd Knife: The reason why I added this Knife- is that is such a nice looking Knife with stunning Bone, the Photos show the Sharpening Marks- Like I said though as a user- what a wee beauty this Knife is, a Camillus Built Sta-Sharp " High Carbon Steel" - Sear's Unique Brand name for a Camillus Built Knife ( Camillus did share other Brand names under Sears as well ).
Stunning Bone, a peek under 3 & 1/2 inches closed, not a Minty - chosen for the very reason for this Knife to be used and really enjoyed, and hopefully one day you will pull it out of your pocket and quietly under your breath thank our friend for his passion which led this knife to be in your Pocket.

A typically fine gesture Dunc and awesome prizes. I never knew Roland beyond the porch...its a big porch as you and I know it stretches round the world.
Good luck to all.
Oh and btw ...17th to 25th of jan I'll be in Levin...you better stay clear of that town...it ain't big enough for the two of us....but I can get you a discount haircut at Precision Barbers👍

Excellent giveaway! I don’t remember Roland, but I hope some folks who did will jump in on this generous giveaway. I’ll enjoy watching from the sidelines.

This is not an entry. I’m always happy to see the generosity of Porch members. Paying tribute to a friend and member is what makes the Porch a special place. I hope that the winners will be able to share the happiness that you received from a fine gentleman. 🙏

I'm in. I'd carry that 2nd knife, no problem. I would make a nice change from my normal Congress patterns.

I’m in. This is such an incredible idea. I never knew Roland, but I get the feeling that I’m going to read some great stories in this thread.

I'm in. I didn't know Roland, but I love to carry old knives, and knowing who has carried them in the past would make any of these very special.

I’m in. I didn’t know Roland. But this type of knife is where my ideals are. I’d much rather have something along this line than a new custom. A knife that’s been loved and used means so much more to me.

Cal, I know you were a great friend of Roland's

Meako my friend, I have shifted so I am closer- I may be able to come down and see you- it all depends on work here! I am putting you in the draw my friend.

I would like to carry one of Roland’s knives, so I am in. I am certain that I made deals with him at some point-we have similar (great lol) taste in vintage knives- but I can’t pick out one that I know for certain was his.

Thank you Duncan for an interesting GAW. I did not know Roland but any friend of yours is a friend of mine. ('cept maybe for that N. Dakotan you seem perplexingly fond of) ;) I appreciate our mutual friend's taste in cutlery and would be proud to carry and use one of the knives that Roland carried. I'm in!

I did not know Roland, so I think I should stay out off this and leave the sentimental prizes to those who knew him and miss him. It's sad though, but many people have good things to say (in this thread and the other back in October). I could only hope that people will remember me as fondly when I am gone as well.

I did not know Roland personally but always read his posts on another forum, found him to be not only very knowledgeable on all things about cutlery but his knowledge about traditional knives was outstanding. He new a lot about the history of traditional slip joints, and his actual collection was outstanding, and he had a fantastic collection of GEC knives. He always stated that he was most fortunate to have been able to purchase his GEC collection when they were readily available to the average knife collector and lover of EDC's. One thing that i did really admire about him was not just his knowledge but his opinions. He could sometimes be a polarising figure, but i found that to be something to be admired, he was forthright but stood his ground. I had some disagreements with him sometimes, but it was never personal, just his opinion against mine, and it was all forgotten and the end of the day. But the fact that he stood his ground and backed his own opinion and judgement i found admirable. Was like at the end of a game of sport, what happened on the oval stayed on the oval and we all went in for a beer after the game. Vale Roland.

Not an entry Duncan, but a fine gesture on your part! I've known Roland way back when he was on BF, he hung out in the Schrade forum. I've had the pleasure of doing some deals with him over the years, and always felt like I made out better in the deal.
