How many RAT Packers like winter camping trips and would be up for a winter gathering in the North GA mountains? I'm thinking about organizing a get together somewhere around Dahlonega or Helen or (open to suggestions). If you guys are interested, we can talk about when and where would be good for everybody. Also, let me know if anyone has any date restrictions or special needs, special needs meaning, health, physical needs, etc. So who would be up for it. Call me crazy, but I like to be outside, freezing my bawls off around a campfire with a bunch of friends.

I'd love to if I had the cash... some other time though. We should take a look at the map and do a RAT gathering closest to the most people. Idaho would be awesome too, it doesn't get extremely cold here, just in Stanley, from what I hear it almost never gets below 20 degrees. That would make for a relatively comfortable winter backwoods trip I think, and we can pick and chose which of a dozen ranges to do it in.

Nope not winter in the mountains. Not a cold weather gal. I'll stick to texas winter camping.

Good idea to organize one for your region though. Guess you're not gonna pony up and come to the texas get together?

I might be up for it. I have a seven month long school from october through May so timing might be an issue.

If I had the coin to make it down, I'd go. Camping is for all times of year, cold weather just weeds out the riff-raff!

Can't make it to Texas this time. That's mainly why I decided to do one closer.

that sounds fun, how cold does it get in the mountains?
Cold bro. COLD. lol.

Hmmm might be an idea, be nice to go south where it rarely gets below 20 degree, be damn near tropical.. :D

I'm in D, if I can swing the $$$$, and get the time off.

Dylside, i am all for doing a camping trip. This cooler weather has me thinking more and more about it.

As far as where you want to camp, it depends on what kind of conditions you want. I have sleep apnea so i usually stay where there is an eletric outlet somewhere. One of my favorite tent places is near ellijay. If we were thinking really primitive there is some good spots up between dahlonega, blairsville, and woody gap. Coopers creek management is up there and has some fairly nice places imho.

As far as temp goes, i always think Ga is colder after the new year than it is before it. I guess thats because it never fails to snow/freeze around early march anyway. It won't matter though. I have a load of wood that needs to be burned soon anyway. (gas heater at home)

Let me know more about where you are thinking about going and maybe we can start a signup list!

Ok guys and gals. I was INFORMED today that I will be off work from January 1st until the 11th. The bossman says it's for "shop inventory". Sooooo. What do you guys think about a beginning of the year camping trip? I figure we could either do an overnighter or a whole weekend. I'm up for either one. What is everyone else's schedules looking like?

kiddsgames, we can go where you or anyone else wants. I really don't have a preference. I'd like to do something fairly primitive. As long as I can sit by the fire with my brandy and cigar, and hang out with some RAT Packers, I'm perfectly happy.

A couple of ideas:
We could bring some trade pieces.
We could do some knife or tomohawk throwing.
We could have everyone cook a different camp food and all try it.
ok I'm out of ideas. Time to drink more Redbull.

I might be up for this... Im in N Ga... May not be able to do that whole time, but I could likely do a few days.

Cool!

Jacks River is a nice trail system. Are you thinking hiking or find one spot to stay in a few days.

Oh don't worry. I wasn't planning on a week long trip or anything. I was thinking two nights max.

I am all for an overnighter, but i wouldn't turn down a weekend trip either. Anyplace in nga is great for me(i live in the area). I would be up for some knife/tomohawk throwing as i haven't tried either. Whats better than flinging some sharp pointy bit into something far away? Also the cooking idea sounds good too. (are all recipes required to have bacon in them? ;p)

Well let's figure out where we want to camp. What are some places we can go? Almost all of the camping I've done around here has either been on private land or up in the mountains, only accessable by truck. Other than that, I've tried some lakeside crap places full of people.
