Winter RAT's Nest

This trip sounds great. My gf won't be down but maybe I can get some other people to go.

lets start getting all this set in stone. jan will be upon us quickly. I am definatly there....as long as i can build a big fire :)

Hey D, well the Boss won't approve the vacation time until after the first, so I have no idea if I can take the time or not. After being out for 9 days with the damn Flu, and having no sick days or vacation time to cover it, I will have to check about cashflow too. BUT if I can work out the details, I will make the trip down :)

Wish I was closer I'd be down in a heart beat, but from northern va it would be to much of a haul for me

WUSSSSS! :D

I have no idea on a campsite for Northern GA. The only ones I know are here in AL. Although looking on recreation.gov, there is 3 parks, Doll, Pocket, and Woodring. I have never heard about any of them before.

Bmgillies I am thinking of going to aid soon. I hear there are mining jobs to be had. If you don't care can I shoot you some questions via email about Australia ?

Y'all have winter down there in Georga? I think you need to come up here, we can go to my hollow at 10,000 feet. Have some true winter camping.

Hell no we dont have a true winter down here. Why do you think we chose to do it down here!:D

EXACTLY! I am hoping to get away in Jan for this trip to the tropical 20's! :) Hell it will be like having a New Years heat wave!

So Dylside is this shindig still planned? And if so Jan. 8-10 are the dates selected correct?

Yes sir. Sorry, I got kind of distracted from this. It is definitely still going on. I just haven't had a chance to sit down and really look at spots. Unfortunately, the motorcycle bidness isn't exactly gangbusters these days so I have very few moments when I'm not trying to hustle a little extra money. Add that with the holidays and all that goes along with that and I'm quickly going bald from pulling my hair out.

Chuck, I hope you can make it bro. I've got a big glass of good brandy with your name on it.

We do need to get this stuff set in stone. If you guys want a primitive site where you can build a big ass fire and no one is around to check up on us or tell us we can't be that loud, I know a spot up in the mountains that is virtually unknown to the "normals". It's near Wildcat Creek, off a crappy little service road. That spot is really the only one I know of other than private property (which we can't use right now due to hunting seasons) that is any good. I've tried a few other spots around North GA and been really disappointed. Once I found this place, I never wanted to find anywhere else since this place was so nice.

With that said, if anyone know a place that they're partial too, or if you guys want to try out Hickey Gap Campground that Necrodamus suggested, I'm game.

Hey D,

The remote spot sounds great.... how do we get to it? 4x4 or on foot? Cause if it is really rough... well the Durango isn't exactly set up for off road usage.... and won't be if I am driving 18 hours each way! :O

Mentioned the time off again to my Boss, and he was non commital about it, so we will see... if I do go it will either just be me, or me and the oldest kid.

The service road it's off of is an unkept road and although I think a 2WD could probably do it, 4WD sure would be handy. If it's snowing or anything up there, which at that point is more than likely, 4WD will be a must as the road is on the side of a cliff for a lot of it and you DEFINITELY do not want to slide off that thing. If someone needs to ride up there with me, that'll be fine. I've got room in the truck for four. We can just throw all our gear in the bed and stretch a tarp over it.

Well, I have a 2WD pickup, but wont be too concerned. I'd bring some chains if we go here.

Hey D,

Well just got word from the Boss... no vacation time in Jan, Feb, or March for me. :(

But my time off for BLADE was approved :) So I guess I will have to see you all there!
