WIP - 1st knife looking for feedback

Thanks! I'll have to try the tung oil trick.

As far as the pins, do you think I should have moved the rear pin closer to the spine?

Excellent work, Dave! And thanks for the detailed WIP! I think Dave's comment was directed at the fact that both pins aren't oriented exactly the same way.

Thanks for the kind words and sheath offer!

I got your email, and will be replying shortly about sheaths.

something else I forgot, that I wish I would have added, was a thong hole. I'm also kinda miffed about not doing that. Unfortunately, at the time I ordered materials, I forgot to order some tubing. Now, I wish I would have ordered some, and paid the little extra in shipping.

Sorry I should have been clearer. I meant you should try to align the mosaic pattern itself so that both pins are the same. IE if the mosic pattern is oriented somewhat in a cross pattern like yours, try to have that cross oriented the same for each pin so that they match rather than having one rotated at a different angle. Does that make sense?

Looks really good!! Not sure why the handle didn't get glossier though. That handle is stabalized, right? Did you wet sand the handle from 400 up?

If you want it to be glossier you could do a light oil finish.

Yes, it's stabilized.

I did not wet sand at all. I guess I should have. Didn't even think of wet sanding.

ahh..yes..totally understand.

Wet sanding, for me, provides a smoother finish than dry sanding. Not sure why but it does.

Wet sand 400 to 600 to 800 then 1000, then 1200, then 2000. After that, it's all up to you how high you go. I see you said you sanded 400 to 1000. Did that mean you hit 600 and 800 or did you just go from 400 to 1000?

I have watched this from start to finish(So far :) ) And i think you did an amazing job! Now you can take everything you learned from this one, and start another....This obsession never stops.... Two thumbs way up!

Great looking knife seionage! that handle looks really comfortable. It is also great to see all the help available on this site, thanks for taking the time to do this WIP. I learned some things!
