WIP, first progress shots on my first folder *UPDATE* Prototype Works!

Ryan and Erik!! I was wondering my two "classmates" would find this thread!:D

No, I have no idea what I'm doing....but I've got some good tutorials on hand and we'll see what happens....

Thanks for checking in guys:thumbup:

I'm no knife maker or craftsmen, but here's what I know. It looks damn good so far! Can't wait to see the finished product. :)

Thanks guys!

Well, I've been out of town but got back today and among other things I wanted to make some progress on this folder, so I finished the liners, drilled for the pivot and stop pin, drilled and tapped the standoff holes, and did final fitting of the tang to the stop pin. I also got the lock face cut. Still need to cut the lock and do the detent, but the prototype is coming together ok so far. Here are some pics from today's work

Looking good Johnny . I would like to recommend another stand off with allowing just a little clearance for the flipper arm. Frank

Hi Jonny -

I was in Europe on business, then I took the motorcycle into Canada to unwind.

I'll be around for a while now....and I'll be waiting to see your folder-project progress!

best regards -

Thanks Gus! You posted just in time, here is a big update!!

Today was really productive. I finished cutting the lock bar after one cutting wheel exploded and my arbor got bent in the drill press. Made the cut a bit more ugly, but lock lined up really well with decent contact on the lock face. I'm able to close the knife one handed but don't have any play so I'm happy about that. Then I got some handle slabs cut out, shaped and drilled, orange and black G-10. Still need to do a lot of finish work on the handle, but wanted to make sure the knife would work before I wasted my time with final finish. Seems to flip nicely with the PB washers I used and I love the Alpha pivots!

This proto is BEEFY! , but I suppose that makes things easier to learn for the first few times when the pieces are larger. I still have to harden the blade, drill and install the detent, and grind the blade, but it's starting to looking like an actual folder now......
