WIP, first progress shots on my first folder *UPDATE* Prototype Works!

It's definitely a motivation seeing people try something new. When i saw your last update i wanted to go straight to the garage and start making another one. Then i remembered i have 7 fixed blades and 2 folders that need working on. Plus a few already ht'd things i keep forgetting about.

lol Ins't that the truth.

P.S. To whom it may concern, Thanks for putting a safety on the +Reply to Thread Button.

Looking great Jonny! Makes me want to try one myself. Not that it will come out that good of course. To do/try list keeps growing. :(

Ain't that the truth! Especially with people trying new things, makes me want to get going on something new as well.

Great looking folder, Jonny - never mind the fact that it's your first! When you do get around to grinding the blade, I would be very curious to know how the experience was grinding post HT.

Jason, thanks brother!!

Ted, I'll definitely be posting up some feedback on post ht grinding!

Patrice, your work is always so meticulous, I'm sure it will translate to a folder. I'd be excited to see you give one a try sometime............Damn that to do list!! It never stops growing, but that's what makes this so cool :D

Jonny, something I don't understand. How do you push back the spring to close the knife. I don't see a cutout to allow access to it?
Also, aren't liner-locks suppose to have a ball bearing so that your spring doesn't carve a groove into your blade where it comes into contact with it?

Oh and thanks for the good words.

Hey Patrice, there is no cutout on the handle. The blade is a thick one, and with washers the liners end up being far enough apart that you can easily get your finger on the lockbar to move it aside to unlock the knife. As far as a detent ball goes, there will be one, but I've been told by another couple of makers to harden the blade first before installing it so that hasn't been added yet.

Thanks for the clarification Jonny and for sharing the process you are going through with us.
It will make it hard to resist trying it this fall. ;)

Well of course you'll be trying it, Patrice! You live in Canada.......what the hell else would you be doing this fall/winter?? Playing tennis in a sub zero temperature ice storm???:D:p

Hi Jonny -

I like the very clean design of your folder - it is a really good looking knife!

The file work on the inside of the lockbar looks great, and it looks like just the right touch to allow your thumb to get a little more grip on the lockbar.

Thanks again for posting all the in-process pictures.

best regards -
