WIP, first progress shots on my first folder *UPDATE* Prototype Works!

Thanks guys!
Xander, yes it will have a clip on it. Just need to decide where and how and drill and tap

.Seems like you must have made a few dozen before this one if I didn't know better. It looks great !!! Frank

Very pretty Jon. That thing is smooth and clean. I love the shape. What is the scale material? Looks like a chocolate linen.

Hey Erik! Thanks buddy. The lighting didn't really make the scales show up all that well. They are actually black and orange tiger strip g-10, but there won't be lots of layering coming through since there's not much contour to them. They're not done yet though, so who knows how things might turn out.......

Looking good Jon!
I really enjoyed watching this 'work in progress'.Thanks for posting it.

Haven't been able to get the blade hardened yet, so did some other finishing work on the folder until I can get the blade ground. I did the final shaping on the handle slabs, added some jimping to the lockbar, finished the liner profiles to 400 grit, and got the blade all cleaned up and ready for heat treat.

Jonny, that looks amazing! Great work, you never cease to amaze me...

Thanks Ryan!
Tim, yeah...after listening to the advice of a bunch of pro folder makers I'm going to grind this one post heat treat......I think. I'm not sure, it doesn't feel like that's what I'm supposed to be doing, but these guys know a whole lot more than I do so maybe I should listen.

looking great jonny! You're brave for doing a flipper on your first folder. Regular linerlocks are way easier.

LOL, not so sure it's bravery Ray:D Could just be plain crazy for all I know! Really appreciate you taking the time to check in on my thread.

Thanks Ryan!

Righto, I never knew that's how they did it. I guess with a smaller blade it's not as big of a deal or maybe it's to keep it crisp. Do you know why it's done post heat treat?

Tim,
Bob Terzuola once said that pre-heat treat you are just tearing metal. Only after heat treat are you truly grinding. Something along those lines.
I think it definitely will keep lines more crisp. Also, you only have to go through the final grits one time rather than twice. I'm wondering how long it will take to finish the bevels with all of the dunking in the water bucket. We'll just have to see how it goes.

It does feel like that some times. I'm wondering which way would go through more belts/paper though. When I get my blades back from HT all they need is a good rub with 400. Don't need to go all the way through again.

By the way, I keep forgetting to mention how good it looks and how nice that handle came up.

Thanks Tim!! The first framelock you made and the WIP that went with it was definitely an inspiration for me. You and I and a couple other guys, like Erik, have all started in on this making business at about the same time and I like to think that we keep each other motivated to keep progressing further and further wit our work. Good to have you giving your feedback brother!!
