I've learned a lot from here, in return I'll do a wip (work-in-progress) give-away knife. Also will throw in 'balanced strop (see thread)' + 1um + 0.5um + 0.25um + 0.1um all monocrystalized + 0.1um polycrystalized diamond photo paper strops - gotta keep your knife extra sharp.

Rules:
0. Still OPEN - enter/entry end on 20130628 or 60 entries whichever come first
1. Continental US - sorry no international, except for friends - where you pay shipping ;)
2. Member over 6 months and have atleast 20 posts as of 20130620.
3. 18+ yrs of age. When in doubt, I will ask for proof.
4. Random draw for the winner after this WIP is concluded. Est completion date: July 3rd
5. One drawing entry per member posted 'I'm in'. Feel free to posts along with this WIP.
6. I could cancel this event any time without provide reasons.
7. Will make an alternate knife if the selected knife fail during making or testing.

Request:
Lucky winner would kindly post a brutally frank knife review in this thread or seperate thread. Good for me to learn good, bad & ugly about the knife and strop.

You can vote which knife (#1-#5) to WIP-> giveaway along with your entry. Vote close at end-of-day 20130623 PST.
Voted: #3 got majority, #2 will be the alternate/standby

The selected knife will be crafted for performance without super F&F. No sheath but I might make a saya for fun.

Heat treatment by me using Evenheat w/ rampmaster. If 52100 knife chosen, I might employ 2 sub-zero: harden quench & after 1st temper.

Handle material - tbd depends on how the blade look after ht and clean up.

Sample of a photo paper diamond strop giveaway strop.jpg I will WIP these too.

edit: final vote result
#1: 4
#2: 10
#3: 12
#4: 4
#5: 2

I,m in I would love to see what you can do with M4 and that hard of rc64. Looks nice from here on the designs love to get that in the kitchen.

For a kitchen knife. I expect 52100 edge retention will be close to M4 level. M4 won't match 52100s scary sharp.

Oh definitely #2. Never tried bearing steel.

In any case, they all look good. Man, I really hope I win this one. :D

Thanks for the chance, and oh yeah, I'm in. :)

I'm in! Leaning towards #4, but the handle looks a little unfinished (As in too abrupt of an end). Can't tell if it's just from my perspective though. But I love the blade shape!

1 sacrificial hacksaw later - voi'la #3 & #4

fyi - #4s handle 2" + 4 hidden pins = very strong. Handle length between 4.5 to 4.7" of hardwood.

Do you sell knives? Just curious about what you do with the "losers". :)

I am new at this (getting more) expensive making knives hobby. Thanks for asking however there are many pro knife makers in BF offer knives with known quality.
