WIP - Restoring a Bradley 40lb Helve Hammer

Phil Cox is THE man when it comes to rebuilding and repairing hammers, he is the guy the "gurus" call when they have a problem, and a very nice man as well.

Another good source of info on the Bradleys is Patrick Nowicki (not sure on last name spelling), he actually has a #15 bench top Bradley.

Well first of all, props for getting Matt Lamey to post!!! :D :p

Shame on me for not posting sooner Matt... This is one of my favorite threads on BF. Because hammers are cool.... tearing one down to rebuild it is cool... and Bradleys are just freak'n awesome.

I have a deep love for Little Giants which is reinforced by folks like the Suedmeier's... but for an engineering/fabricator geek like me... something like the Bradley is just freaking cool.

We all knew Spangler just thought it was yard art anyway ;) Not picking on him... it's hard spending all that time trying to win the teen vogue grinder award!!!

;) :D

Can't wait to see a video of this thing pounding out some steel Matt!!! :)

Wow, very cool thread. Cool to see the hammer slowly re-emerge looking all gray and shiny:thumbup::thumbup:

Nice work so far.

Hey Nick, look at this, 2 posts in the same thread from me;)

Matt send me an email and I will attach a PDF file of the Bradley Compact manual. My email is matt@lameycustomknives.com

Are you setting up a web site just for Bradleys or power hammers in general?

Interesting....not as much "swing" as I thought it might have.

Well since we're posting links to videos... I first saw this one over on IForgeIron.... this guy is a regular there.

This Bradley makes my heart skip a beat (or three)!!!!

It's got a slightly bigger ram (500) ;)

By the way Mace... sorry this isn't as much of a swinger as you buddy. Ba da ZING! :p :D

...just found out that the hammer in this video is being driven backward. The belt is running in the wrong direction, and as a result it's completely out of adjustment. Guess this wasn't such a good idea to post - unfortunately, it's the first footage of this style I've seen. Alas...:(

thats how's the doctors explained it to mace, they said "your gears run backwards from other people, that's why you talk about nick wheeler so much"

that strike wrench is amazing!

I really couldn't believe how well it worked. Aside from the fact that they weigh a ton and are totally unwieldy, it sure beats the heck out of a breaker bar (sorry for the bad pun...).:D
