WiP! Trail Cutlass

spec edit in the OP

note spec change = slight redesign

The concept is sounding pretty sweet.

And......

For the record, I wasn't suggesting anything close to what looks as if it was forged beneath Isengard and wielded by some orc hybrid while hunting down halflings. The machete discussion just reminded me of that odd piece of my brother's - I'm pretty sure he is the one who screwed together a couple pieces of a stick for the handle. 😁

the 3' bar of steel has been ordered...

I already have the steel for the original plan, so I think I'll make an LC type thing as planned and get the handle figured out more fully. Then I can take what I learned, and make whatever small and/or large changes that need to happen so I can improve it for the cutlass

this is going to be a wild ride...

I always thought the handle was a little cramped but otherwise it's fast as hell and fun to use. I don't want to keep on about it but I am very excited for this project of yours.

Brother, in retrospect and in a slightly drunken state while on vacation in Las Vegas, I sincerely apologize. Looking back I realize that my comments may have been offensive regarding the example of your brother’s machete. It was not intended.

Some men won’t waste effort on amending a small slight. I will. You have had my respect since the first post of yours I read about a year ago. I was simply engaging in the conversation the way I typically blunder through life impulsively, excitedly, and sometimes dangerously. We are who we are.

All due respect to your input and much props to Lorien for inviting us all into his inspirational exercise.

Sincerely,

Michael

My friend, you have no need to apologize - I didn't take it as a slight at all! It's an ugly slab of steel 😁

I clarified only because I hadn't quoted anybody really and realized that my example could have been taken as a suggestion which it most certainly was not. I think some folks might be offended by that piece of work but my brother liked that crude ugly shit so the machete discussion gave me some fond memories.

I appreciate you and we are definitely all good.

Good stuff bro. It’s better to have friends than enemas !😄

I've noticed a LOT of holly growing out in the forest lately. It's an extremely invasive plant and what makes it really bad is that it's not only evergreen, it's super prickly. When you get thickets of it, it makes life difficult for the wildlife when it comes to getting around. The problem with it is that multiple stems poke up out of the ground, covering the forest floor. Makes it hard to remove since it's low down.

This cutlass will provide the extra reach needed to get at this stuff. Holly is also very hard and tough- difficult to cut- and with multiple stems, so it will make for a great test media. Plus, when peeps ask why I have a huge cutlass on me, I have a pc reason that no one can really give me a hard time about lol.

I aimed to finish a bunch of knives/sheaths for the end of this month, and it looks like I'm on schedule. For the month of March, I'm going to do a run of EDC sheaths in order to build some funds for my Blade Show trip. My plan for April is to get this cutlass squared away so that I have some time to test it before Blade, as I hope to have it at the show.
