WIP Update, NEW PROGRESS!!

That looks like a TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) motor, you dont' need a cover jut blow it off every once in a while,if you really do get any dust made:D

As soon as Rob gets that wheel in the mail:D

....um, by the way, the Grizz is still plenty capable of making dust;)

J-Mac... I have to be honest and tell you that i see 2 potential problems with your set up.

1. The dust collection system you have doesn't look like it addresses spark issues. You need a spark arrest chamber, bro.... or you may be fanning a fire in that shop vac of yours.

2. The sparks from the grizzly are going to burn a hole straight through that table top. Another fire hazard if not delt with.

Great machines just the same, my friend.

Rick,
Fair enough, thanks for pointing it out. I'll look into making or getting some kind of spark arrest chamber for the KMG. I have been doing lots of grinding on the Grizzly, and the table is fine so far. I've done lots of profiling and bevel grinding on it so far and haven't had any spark problems. To be fair, I've been using finer belts, a gentle touch, and have been going really slow here in the beginning to keep myself from hogging off lots of metal that can't be replaced in the event of the inevitable beginner's mistakes:o As things progress I'll probably make mores sparks and have to address that. I have access to plenty of HVAC sheet metal that I can fashion a protective layer out of when needed.

Thanks for the heads up!

Jonny

Cool bro... I actually modified the baseplate of my grizzly to allow it to hang off the table and put a water trough under it. This also gave me more room for working long knives and swords...

I cut a couple inches off the plate and redrilled for the mounting screws...

then added some sheet metal guards...

Rick,
Now that I see those pics I recall the thread that you originally posted them in. That's a great idea! I'll definitely have to do some rearranging of my work benches because as things sit now, there is NO room for a trough between the two tables, but I've got an old grandfather clock and some other things to the left of the Grizzly table that need to go and when I've got a bit more space (mine is very limited right now), I would like to do something like that to the Grizz. Here is a pic of my first modification to mine, a great improvement on the stock work rest. Now I can feel confident that my profiling is nice and flat.

Woo Hoo!! Replacement tracking wheel showed up this afternoon from Fedex! Worked on getting belt tracking dialed in this evening, and did some profiling. Lots more bevel grinding will be happening very soon!

It's a bit overwhelming now that my KMG is up and running. Small wheel, 8" wheel, flat grinding with platen, MAP arm......lots of different stuff to check out. This is a really cool machine:thumbup:
