Witness the power of BJJ in a fight

Lights out... Only problem with bjj is that a good Muay Thai fighter can counter it. But mixed martial combo of the two are deadly.

True. Some styles do counter others though... Mixed martial arts is the way to go.

Bjj is a great base.

The testosterone in that room is so thick you could baton it.

Nice!

Jeet Kune Do be my style; a little bit of everything. But I would agree that, as almost all fights wind up on the ground, BJJ is the way to go (besides JKD). As the Gracie legacy proved for a long time in MMA; before there were weight classes in the early 90's, Gracie JJ (BJJ) demolished almost anyone.

LMOA, totally. It is pretty cool how he ended up winning that fight though. It makes you think that there are different ways to win, not just punching him into a pulp.

That's what BJJ is all about. The technique and philosophy behind BJJ gives you almost limitless ways to "disable" your attacker. An aggressor thinks he has the upper hand when the fight goes to the ground. With BJJ, you gain the advantage when said fight GTTG, given you have your technique down-pat and you maintain composure and do not panic.

Very true.

I know a few folks with genuine hand-to-hand fighting skills. These are serious people, they depend on no particular style or styles ... and I would want a good 50 feet and a full clip in a .45 before dealing with any of them.:o

I train MMA and BJJ is great but it's just one aspect. Greg Jackson summed it up pretty nicely when GSP was defending his belt a while back. GSP pulled his groin and was telling Jackson - his reply was 'well, hit him with it'

Use it all. Personally I like thai kicks, western boxing for hand strikes. wrestling style takedowns (my rugby days help a lot here) and then ground n pound or a submission if you can get it.

BJJ is great in a fight - if you don't mind getting pounded in the face while you try and setup a submission. As my coach always says - position before submission !!

Cool thread

I love that stuff. That's why it pays off for anyone to at least get a good handle on the ground game. Now combine that with digging/jamming fingers/thumbs into the clavicle notch, eye sockets (ocular k.o.), breaking fingers, short blade, etc... and that's some scary stuff. But that is more along the lines of combatives. Great stuff. Thanks for the post.

After watching MMA for years and years, I don't care who you are or what background you have, which discipline you train, all it takes is 1 punch, and all systems can be shut down, nighty night. :D

It is fun to watch all the different styles though go up against one another. However, you can't counter a 1 punch knockout, now those are impressive

If you have never seen this one, take a look, probably never see it again LOL:eek:

FWIW, most people aren't trained in any fighting style - if you are a trained BJJ fighter, you'll have the person twisted into a pretzel before they knew they were in a fight. ;)
