Witness the power of BJJ in a fight

FWIW, most people aren't trained in any fighting style - if you are a trained BJJ fighter, you'll have the person twisted into a pretzel before they knew they were in a fight. ;)

Yeah most people aren't but a lot have done high school wrestling that's why a lot of fights end up on the ground.

After watching MMA for years and years, I don't care who you are or what background you have, which discipline you train, all it takes is 1 punch, and all systems can be shut down, nighty night. :D
They happen, but they are very rare. It's not something you can train to defend against, but you can't train to win with it either. It's the pucker factor. ;)

I was taught by my brother that the majority of judo should be looked at as a method of using the ground/surroundings as a weapon, certainly there is more to it, but that's the street effective part. if you are going to ground it's very preferable that you opponent be unconscious or completely out of the fight when he gets there. If you have a sharp corner and your good at moving people around, move them into it.

Ooops! I skimmed over the original post so quick before I hit the link that I thought I was going to see one of those guys pull out a Boss Jack and go to town on someone!!!!

Waaaaaay better outcome. Sweet choke.

very true but BJJ against someone who knows what they are doing is not the best imo. It's good but fights involve fists, elbows, knees, feet and street fights involve anything. You gotta get your opponent down too !!

Personally I think BJJ is best for ladies as a self defense style. Part of it relies on a bigger stronger opponent being on top of you while your on your back. Some big nasty dude trying to hurt a lady is not going to expect an arm bar which can maime pretty badly. Triangle chokes aren't that easy to land unless your legs are long enough go easily wrap around a big old head and pair of shoulders

Of course, most fights involve multiple people and a 2x4 with a nail in it.
Run, Gun, or just don't go there.

Okay okay, Im all for watching MMA and BJJ on TV and all, but lets be real here people. I have had enough time on the street to know that when a REAL fight goes down, it almost never happens with two guys, one on one in a fair fight like we all want to think. THis is for the ring fellas, not for the street, so lets not forget that. Almost every time I have seen a fight go down on the street in real life, it usually involves one guy trying to take another guy down, and all of a sudden you have 3 or 4 more guys jumping in on you trying to kick your face in.
Im not trying to knock BJJ in any way for sport and entertainment. But, in the real world, and yes, I have seen enough to know what the hell Im talking about, things just don't happen like this. And, if it does, its rare. I am in no way trying to brag and sound like I have taken down hundreds of guys in the past, but like i said I have seen enough. I wouldn't like to see more if I can help it, but unfortunately, have been witness or been within too close distance to more than a couple of these situations in my past. Again, just my .02 to get the fires going..

Yeah that happens quite often but you have to remember BJJ is not just about fighting off your back, there is what they call the top position and many people who study BJJ prefer it over bottom position. Either way you have to admit that knowing BJJ and being down on the ground regardless of how many attackers there are it's better to know something than nothing at all.

That's why in BJJ when you get someone on the ground you claim the top position by mounting and pummeling the chit outta them. The Gracies have been doing it for many years way before MMA. It's not just about submissions although it is a common misconception about the art.

BJJ is a big part of our training but I use it more for actually controlling and transition to a more dominant position. I get most of my subs from side control. I 'm a better ground fighter than a striker but a thai leg kick will change most peoples minds about causing any crap. BJJ defo has it's place but like any style if's not the be all and end all.
