WNY Gathering 2011

Glad Doug told me about this, I have not read the boards in a while. I'll be there.
Oh, everyone bring a hawk to throw at the sweet target I made last year ;)

Son of a.........
My ducks are pretty much in order and i'm still planning on showing up sometime saturday afternoon.
BUT......
My wifes Grandad, a 91yr old kindly but stubborn ol' cuss was rushed to the hospital tonight because of internal bleeding.
Not sure if it was his recent fall or a drug interaction, but they had to open his stomach up to do an exploratory and couldnt find the source. They gave him some drugs to stop the bleeding and they've seemed to work, but they couldnt close him up due to remaining large bloodclots and his being in a weakened state. Prognosis is hopeful, but not very optimistic.

So, theres the chance that i may have to bow out on this at the very last minute.
But we do what we must for those we love.

ah, that's a Karda :) great khukris.

of course, i'm all about the tweeners

Yes, thats a karda, bladey. Now you know why i don't show my face that often. Babies cry when they get posted.
Of course john, now that you've revealed my secret identity, you do realise i have to drive back there and make you disappear, Right? ;):D
The blade next to the D/P is a tamang.
It's actually one of the lighter H.I. khukuri. Doug is the owner and i now have my first D/P knives Bushcraft knife.
Everyone was great company and the food was excellent. Much good conversation was had. Knives were fondled and admired all around. John G and Twinstick gave my AK Bowie a few good workouts. If it werent for things to do, Grandpa and the wife having to fend for herself, i'da stayed sunday night too.
I urge anyone who can make it next year to please do so, Doug, Mary and never too sharp are great hosts and it'd be a pleasure to get to know some more new people.

Here's a pic of a few more scores from the weekend. The nicest walking stick I've ever had, carved by John G, the nicest strop I've ever had, also carved by John G, the slick little tin knife made by Doug, a Kabar mini dozier and a K2.

Every year I come away from this event with an armload of stuff, a full belly and a strained liver. :D I don't want that to sound materialistic because it's really a testament to the generosity of all the folks involved and the community as a whole. Once again, thanks to all who helped make this such an enjoyable time, and I look forward to doing it again.
