Woman's camping knife suggestions.

I like the falkniven wm1 (I think) that is supposed to be designed for women. VG 10 steel though. (Still stainless and should survive the kayak.

It is really small, but weirdly fits my hand and you get a lot out of the small knife.

Also doesn't have the F1 rattle sheath.

I say whatever knife she wants. Everyone is different. We use to do a lot of outdoor stuff when the kids still lived at home. Each of my girls had different likes in knives to use.

Example:

My wife favored either an Esee Izula with TKC scales or a Bark River classic light hunter.

Oldest daughter preferred a Buck 110 or Mora.

Second daughter preferred larger knives like Kabar utility and machetes.

Youngest daughter preferred Buck 102.

My opinion is take her shopping and let her look. If she likes the knife she will use it and get comfortable with it.

Just my opinion.๐Ÿ‘

I won't generalize what a "woman's knife" is as I have always thought it was about hand size. My wife has long piano fingers that can handle most any knife but the weight gets to be a bit much...but a heavy knife is a heavy knife and tuckers me out too ;) As I get older, I have been leaving the prybars at home more.

That said, I would let her pick something out. Does she want something easier to pack, easier to keep clean, cuts cleaner over being a bruiser? Throwing a pink handle on a knife doesn't make it a "girls knife"...it makes it a knife with a pink handle that some women, my wife included, would consider condescending.

My wife doesn't really want to carry a knife when we hike. We typically divide the load/chores. I usually carry the gear and first aid. She'll pack the bottles of water and snacks. Most camp chores she prefers for me to do simply because I am faster at them and she would rather work on spreading out our stuff and organizing. She's the brains. I'm the blunt instrument.

I might get her to carry a Mora... maybe. She usually has an unused SAK Spartan buried in her pack, though.

I feel a woman's suggestion would be to have a man use whatever knife he likes to do all the camp chores.

Just to make this legal, a paring knife.

Also, she views a knife as a tool, like a screwdriver. She has no idea what I paid for them. I wish I could be more like that.

Another thought, a Ruike Jager F118. Not magnacut, but excellent 14c28n.

I second kyhuntโ€™s suggestion to take her to a knife store to try them out in person. Much of this is going to be the ergonomics of the knife in her hand.

These won't be ready for another month or two but my upcoming Fell Chef model is a great option for women. Its shaped like a chef knife with a 10in blade and 11in of cutting edge. It's strong enough to chop and clear brush but has the blade shape and geometry to excel at camp cooking.

It will feature small pinch grip scales to help facilitate rock and chop cutting and fine slicing. Since it looks and feels like a chef knife, I think there will be an element of muscle memory there for women and they will be less likely to hurt themselves. (hopefully)

Buck 662.

Buck warranty. Bos Heat treat. Magnacut. Etc.

Some guy named David Mary. He uses AEB-L. Apparently. From Canada-or somewhere.

Horsewright. Cowboy, maker, user. He uses AEB-L a lot too.

They might be brothers.

Thank you sir for the shout out for me and my Bro!

I have made very many knives over the years for women. Many like what we might think of as ladies colors and many don't Roughest toughest, handiest cowchick I know asked for one in pink and it kinda blew me away, was not expecting that from her. My wife and daughter don't do the pink thing but my wife has stole many a turquoise knife out of production that was suppose to go on the website, she prefers that color although her current knife is a small fixed blade with buckeye burl handle.

These three were bought by a grandfather for his granddaughters:

He'd picked the other two first and then hesitantly asked if I was making anything in pink. As a matter of fact I was:

Purple kinda fits in too

Just depends on her likes.

I would recommend a BK 18, also Kaiser has a nice harpoon blade both regular, and small. Also comes in multiple steel types

Fantastic photos!

The horses make an excellent background and setting!

I got to say, I find it weird that most people here focus on colour of the handles, not on size and shapes. And the OP's request for Magnacut went also mostly unanswered.

If I had to choose a knife for my wife, I'd look for something that had a handle the apporpriate size for her hands, since the hands of the womenfolk tend to be smaller than mens hands.

OP, I think Danke42 has the best suggestion, take her to a store to try a few designs, seems the best choice in my view. On the other hand, if you want to wow her and want it to be a present, I suggest you go the custom route with the many makers on this here forum, maybe somehow measure your wife's hands and relay that to the maker, you seem to know what she wants and has handled :)
