Women and Knives: Why More Women Need To Carry A Blade

Until someone invents a folder with fixed blade capabilities. I prefer a fixed blade for my hard to open bottles. :D

As we've learned from countless other threads, when we start discussing each other bad things can and usually do happen. We really don't need speculation as to why other people are here anymore than we need embedded videos with zero knife content. This is not a blog or a news feed and everyone will stay on topic going forward. :)

As always, if you see a problem, help us out and report it.

I might as well add my two pence worth with a piece of my life : my wife and I used to gift one another a nice folder for our birthdays, the birthday of us meeting or any other events. It was fine. I always liked knives and I found this was one of the best things I could give to someone I really cared for. I still do : I gifted recently one my nicest knives to a woman whom I really admire. I opened the box and let her make her choice. She chose well. I respect her even more. She keeps it in her pocket and uses it constantly. Hell, it even has a "pocket worn" look after less than a year ! End of random talk and answer to your question : should women carry knives ? Of course, it cuts stuff and everybody needs that. It's basically a matter of freedom : do what you need to do without depending on or asking someone. Paramount for me but others see it differently : I cringe whenever my Ma goes running for the scissors when she needs to cut something... I have some fine knives I could give her but she fears they would be "way too sharp and dangerous for me..." To each its own. There was a SD appendix somehow in your post and on that subject I totally believe in awareness first. Learn to read behaviours and situations, get out and/or away whenever anything seems fishy, and so on. There are tons of informations about these methods on the internet (and courses) so I don't need to add my ramblings. Additionally practicing seriously a martial art for last ditch defense is only reasonable. Cherry on the cake, I have a suggestion for a woman's knife. It's my current EDC and I really fell in love with this small thing. It's beautiful, sharper than the devil's sister and, despite being rather diminutive in the eyes of a Bowie fan, it's a very serious knife... and also, just sexy. Böker Beauty it's called. The money clip leather sheath can be clipped to a pocket (in or out), into a purse, on a belt, whatever...

Legion, that knife looks like a Blackjack (BJ) Classic 1-7. It is a nice knife to be sure! The BJ 125 is one of my favorites.

Good deal! I would very much so LOVE to talk about knives :-) I like SAK's, yes..but I have several... I have one that only has one blade that was given to me and it's silver..a red one and the camo one. I do like the Opinels..I would like to get every color in the Opinel just for fun. I just like to collect them mainly... :-)

In the Opinel line, I favor the No. 8 and will eventually pick one up. The 7's have the rounded tip which for me is more like a kitchen knife. They make a saw blade also that I think would be rather useful out in the woods.

Yes sir it sure is.

The Blackjack lovers are always trying to spread the word. :D I also have a 1-7 and a few of the Randalls as well. I am waiting for BJ to bring out the sub-125 (Trail Guide perhaps) vs the Bark River Nomad (which I have).

Please report any concerns to this forum's Mods. They're good but can't be expected to see everything.

Oh, I and several others did. There are many places on this forum for many types of discussions. I would suggest the OP take her videos there. Whine and Cheese perhaps?

That is my website link, which it asks for your website link when you fill out the information. I get plenty of clicks on my youtube and don't need to go to BladeForums to get clicks. You have no idea why I am here. You obviously have a problem with women and new people. I enjoy myself here, that is why I paid for a membership. Move along if you have nothing worthy to say that pertains to this thread. I am asking you kindly. I am done with this conversation. Continue if you must, but you will receive no more replies from me. Have a lovely day! ;)

Honestly? You need to look at what is happening here. Quiet has some very valid points. I don't care what gender, race, sexuality, or religion you are, anyone posting what you have will catch some flack. There have been many folks who have done what you did and it generally goes about as well as what is happening here. Unnecessary and un-knife related glam shots showing some skin, directing folks to your un-knife related youtube channel, and posting extremely divisive religious videos are not something that 99% of us do. We mostly talk about knives. Again, there are areas here where you can do all that stuff if you want.

On topic, I am raising my daughter to use knives. Mostly in the kitchen and when camping. She has a pink Native 5, a translucent blue SAK (similar to the one below), and come summer her first fixed blade will a Guardian3. And yes Marcinek, some girls do really want a pink knife :p

I will have to check out the no. 8...thanks!

I am a preparedness advocate, which is part of my interest in EDC and knives. The video in question was from my Vimeo Plus account, which is unmonetized. I do not make money on my Vimeo account. I explained why I posted it, which had to do with the photo of my son who likes knives. I am very passionate about what I do. I will continue to be myself and be passionate. You were right about the video not being directly about knives, therefore I humbled myself and removed it. However, other than that, i am really not doing anything wrong here other than sharing, commenting, and being sociable. This is a social media outlet where people converse. I will keep being me. If this offends anyone, they will just have to get over it..no rudeness meant. Nice knives by the way and thanks for sharing.

Good to see kids doing kitchen food prep work. I never did any kitchen cutting until I was grown up and had to.... you know so I could eat. It wasn't a big learning curve, but I liked knives already. With kids, it is good that they use knives as tools rather than thinking they are all for fighting. The sooner they learn the better so that they can offer a more adult opinion should the topic come up in school.

Just make sure you familiarize yourself with the rules. As the mods have not commented on this yet I don't know their view on it but to me the video you posted was in direct violation of the rules for the General Discussion forum. Further, you have posted a lot of photos of yourself, some showing skin, but only one with a knife. Also, while you have done a good job not overtly directing folks to your channel you have mentioned it so many times and in such ways that it would seem to me you are directly folks to it, and it is not knife related. Sure you can probably do these things but do take notice you are in the minority of members doing so and be prepared to answer for such practices.

Yes, kids need to know how to use a knife, in the least for getting food to their mouths. Jamie Oliver did a show a while back where he came to America and tried to change the Elementary school lunch system in a rural town so it would have more nutritious food. Every thing was in Nuggets or hand held for so the kids wouldn't need to use utensils. Well guess what? This also meant that they couldn't cut up healthier food and put it in their own mouths. None of them knew how to use a butter knife.

I am teaching my daughter how to do food prep in the kitchen (I do 95% of the cooking in our house), I am also teaching her how to cut her own food while on the plate (current favorite for this would be Sunny Side up eggs), and this last summer we started with whittling while camping. She is 8.

True, but about knife related content. Particularly in General Knife Discussion. Rules is rules...no "getting over it."

There is a Community Center forum here for non-knife related content, it is here is you haven't come across it yet.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/742-Community-Center

22-rimfire's point about kitchen prep work is interesting. It always amuses me that knife work in the kitchen with a kitchen knife doesn't really seem to "count" as knife use around here.

It seems that more people would be "into" knives if they realized that, by using kitchen knives, they are already "into" knives.

Assuming my math is right, if the OP keeps up her pace she will have 28,112 posts by the end of the year.

I have a positive thing to say : get good blades and keep them to good business !
