Wondering what Sal carries?

Hi Joe,

Your showing our age, They're hard to find. They were a G.Sakai "experiment". We had them for a while. I don't know that there are any around, but I'll check

Yeah, I guess I am pretty old. So my kid tells me anyway. My biggest problem is my stubbornness. It took me like 20 years to get that "V" steel Gerber. I hope it doesn't take me 20 to get this bowie but no telling. I didn't get anywhere trying the usual places including G.Sakai in Japan. I did get to hear about how their D2 version is better, and it's a high speed steel too, according to one guy. :)

Ah! the bad thing is all this run around makes me more obsessed.

Years ago (in the '80's) Sal used to carry an all steel full size rescue which had been double ground with serrations on both sides into a a lethal serrated ice pick. I tried to buy it from him but he refused to sell it to me.
I asked him last year if he still had it and he said that it was still in his desk drawer somewhere..........It was the coolest and most evil looking Sydie I had ever seen.

Wow! Sal's first two, Caly3.5 and ZDP Stretch are both my favorite EDC's. Made my day Sal!

Oh, this thread needs pictures of this eyes pick!

As far as my carry, I usually rotate daily. I like the Millie at home, but now it's too large for Denver. Prototypes are often carried to test function and ergos. Both Eric and I have to carry all protos enough to get a feel for the "spitit" of the model. I also try to be legal with my carry, so some countries are Slipits.

Models that get a fair amount of carry time: Caly 3.5, Stretch ZDP, Native, Delica FRN ZDP, Endura where legal. Almost always have a Manbug with me, but waiting for the ZDP. Today I carried a D'Allara (working on a "3"). P'kal where necessary. Para 2 also. Everything gets carried some.

WOW, here I am late at night, can't sleep, and just discovered Spyderco has its own thread here at BF.
And to top it off, Mr. Glesser himself is chiming in all over the place. I'm impressed. Talk about staying connected with the fans.

I heard the Stretch was a pet project of yours from the beginning, way before it got popular. I LOVE my "friendly" blue ZDP!

I too enjoyed your G.Sakai imports and owned a beautiful M. Takahashi stainless bolster with black micarta sides "trout knife" around '94.
My first quality one hand opening folder was a Standard (pre Delica), bought on the same day I got my first handgun in '92. I still have this.
Also worth mentioning, is when I got back into knife collecting a few years ago, one of the first "must haves" was to reacquire a large and small Spydie Wegner C48 and C49.

Thanks for the wide range of styles you've continued to offer us knifenuts from the beginning.

If I was Sal G I would carry a S90V Para in one pocket and a M390 Millie in the other. Sorted!

I would also get the boys in the factory to whip me up a plain edge Civilian in S90V with peelply CF scales for those dark alleys. Just because I could! :D

He's just not saying that because all us crazy knife nuts will want them. :D

Sal is currently carrying a new proto called "The bird eating spyderco"

We're not sure what it's made of, but it's very big!! :D

I would love a picture of the "Eye-Pick" sounds great, and with regards to what he carries he has a pretty sick custom collection (including some insane CR knives with unique locks if memory serves me correctly) and prototypes on demand so whatever he carries its awesome and he should share pics. ;)

Nice! I'd love a ZDP 189 Stretch.
