A question for the guys with wooden handles, what do you use to protect and preserved the wood. I have heard people use French polish, canuba wax or tung oil ? What's the concencus on the best product ?

I use Renaissance Wax. Two coats every so often. The American Military Edge Weaponry Museum in Intercourse, PA uses Butcher's Bowling Alley Wax. He's got lots of wood and carbon steel to protect and swears by it.

I use tung oil, but not often. It's more of a finish than a conditioner, and is slow to dry. But it penetrates and creates a nice satin finish on bare woods that need some care.

I've been wondering why my ebony knives aren't as shiny as others, so I looked up oils or waxes. I'm watching "Breaking Bad" and one of the characters (Jesse) is talking about making box out of various woods, and rubbing it down with "tongue oil". I look it up and can't find what the heck he's talking about. "Tongue oil" makes to sense anyway. Now I finally get it. I've been wanting to get some Ren wax, but jeez that stuff is expensive. I know it'll last close to forever, but still...

Food safe mineral oil is the only thing I put on any of my knives, regardless of handle material or blade steel. I've had no problems so far.
