Thanks, John. Unfortunately, compared to the knife, I'm a "spring chicken", and have no idea of the story behind the blade modification. There's a fair amount of empty space in the blade well beyond the tip of the current blade, so one possibility is we're seeing the result of fixing a broken tip.
