I've got my favorite wood covered knife today, the ironwood Northfield Barlow.

I'd always had a problem carrying most wood knives. The finish was so smooth and glossy and beautiful, I was scared to death of scratching, denting and dulling them. But my iron Barlow was sort of an ugly duckling from the get-go, being rather roughly finished, and having other cosmetic flaws as well. So I was never worried about marring its pristine glory. Now I've come to greatly prefer a well-used wood covered knife with all of it's accumulated patina and wabi sabi
