Thanks for the info, Tim.That is Oak Gary. I soaked mine in Ballistol's for a couple of days because like you said it looked really dry. It may not last but Ballistol's has been an amazing product for me.
I know nothing about Ballistol, but I looked online and it's apparently based on mineral oil. So your approach and mine differ in degree, I guess. I've been occasionally rubbing a couple of drops of mineral oil into my oak handles, while you soaked yours in Ballistol for a couple of days! So I think I'll hit the mineral oil much harder (although I'm also thinking about trying some tung oil I have).
