Fixed that for you ^.

I'd heard that tapping Ti is tough but man, 3 taps?!?! Wow

Ya well remember it's a grade 5 Ti alloy that contains aluminum and vanadium to make it more wear resistant. Great for long lasting lock face geometry but hell on your tools. I did a little searching around here and apparently its commonplace to drill the tapping hole oversize to accommodate for the nasty properties of grade 5 Ti.

Also titanium work hardens the moment you drill or grind and ANY heat develops the work surface is significantly harder. That's why I always use tons of machine lube but sometimes its not enough.

I don't know why I like to torture myself and keep opening this thread........

Version 2 can't come quick enough so hopefully I can get in on it!!!!!!!

I can't wait for the day I open this thread to see a post saying "knives are in the mail". until then, I will patiently wait like a kid on christmas eve. THESE KNIVES ARE GOING TO BE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I REALLLLLLLLLLY hope these are done, shipped, and at my door before the 20th.... or else its gonna be another week before I get it.

Doing my best gentlemen. These are coming along better than I ever could have hoped for. Right now I'm running the brushed finish handles under my scotch brite wheel and later tonight I will be adding 600 grit diamond lapping paste to the pivots and blades for a perfect fit. Your patience will be rewarded I promise you.

That was just a hope! No pressure!!

OK so just finished tapping 57 holes. Took me 5hrs and broke 3 more taps but it went reasonably smoothly compared to last time. Once I re-reamed the holes a size larger it went like butter. The pivots have all be barrel lapped with a 600grit diamond paste and they fit the pivots perfectly. All holes are counter sunk to 82 degrees and half of the pocket clips have been ground out on my 2" drum.

Tomorrow I am going to finish up the pocket clips, fix the last three holes that have broken taps in them, and start cutting the lock faces to match handles with blades. So its really just final assembly and fit and finish at this point. It's coming together gentlemen!

You'll probably have to set it down at some point or your arms may just give out ;)
This thing is gonna be such a beast!!!! Forgive me, I mean it's gonna be such a TiTAN!!!!

I've been working out so I will only have to put it down for short periods of time.

Just a quick bench shot of the fitted pocket clips. Tomorrow I will hit them quickly with the Scotch-Brite wheel and they will be done. Next up is lock face fitting! I'll be sure to shoot video of the flipping action!
