Work Sharp Knife Sharpener

I talked to him initially, and he sent me a message asking to email him at Work Sharp. Same as stichawl, I haven't heard anything back since then....

It's been six days now and I still haven't heard a word from either the company nor the rep who posts here. Might be a great product... but customer service doesn't exist. If another company puts out a similar device but has customer service, THAT is the company I'll deal with.

Sorry 'Work Sharp.' No customer service means fewer customers. And as the president of 'Neiman-Marcus' said; 'every customer is our most important customer.'

Hello guys,
I'm still here...

I just sent you an email directly Stitchawl. Cramsey3006, I posted a note on your visitor board.
Please call or email me directly so I can answer your questions guys.

Heat in the kitchen doesn't bother me...websites that filter out email inquiries do!

We also just purchased our dealer membership in this forum, so now our spam challenges have been resolved.

Thanks for your patience guys...

Just to let everyone know...
This morning I DID receive an e-mail from Work Sharp here in BF. I will use e-mail with him to find out more information.

Received the Work Shop Knife and Tool Sharpener yesterday from Kyle to evaluate. I just had a knife and sharpening seminar in my community a few week ago and wish I had had this for the others to see.
Over coffee this AM I took it out of the box to see how it functions. Seems to be made well and was easy to use. The belts change out quite fast. Tracking is easy with one adjustment knob. My wife wanted to know what it was and I told her. There was that face again, like you really need another knife sharpener. She then gave me a pair of scissors to sharpen. Where did you find these I asked. It was not in the best of shape and couldn't cut paper. I cleaned them up with a scotch brite pad and lubed the pivot. Started up the Work Sharp and about 6-7 passes on each cutting edge it was as good as new. This unit performed well. With the guide for scissors (has magnet to help hold the blade for the proper angle) made it quite easy to sharpen. I have a Kalamazoo 1" x 42" belt grinder and this was just as easy, if not easier, then using the Kalamazoo. Takes up allot less space for those who might not have the need for a large belt grinder.
Oh yea! Don't use it on the kitchen granite counter as grit etc. was left and I heard about it.
Hope to try it on a few knives in the next week and will report on my results. So far

I sent Work Sharp an email when knifenut did, which he answered and I offered to review one and publish the review in my blog which has 15 to 20k page views per month and give a free link to his website. I never heard back.

Bad business decision. I have paying customers for other products in line but this was about one of my personal interests so up to the front of the line, but no response. :thumbdn:

How would you use it without the guard freehand? Im assuming that the switch is a pressure momentary switch, which means you need to hold the switch in to turn on the machine. I would not want to freehand sharpen using it like a typical belt sander if you have to hold the button with one hand and the knife with the other. You wouldnt have good control of the knife to control the angles.

Of course you could clamp the switch to stay on, not sure how that would work.

The work sharp comes with a momentary/off/on switch. Switch does not have to be held on for it to run. Being a hand held device I would still keep one hand on the unit when running a knife across the belt to be sharpened.

Sorry, but a momentary/off/on switch DOES have to be held on for it to run. Meaning that you would have to hold the handle and the switch on while at the same time trying to freehand the blade on the abrasive. Not a good idea for precise control.

Rick,
Maybe I didn't explain it well. Sorry
The switch has 3 positions.
1. Hold switch in to run.
2. Off (middle position)
3. On (runs with finger off the switch)
Hope this clears it up.

The machine we are talking about--Worksharp Knife and Tool Sharpener--only has the momentary function. Maybe the Worksharp 2000 or 3000 has the other functions.

It would be nice if it did have the other type of switch.

Rick, I don't know if you have this machine or not. The one they sent me to review is the Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener. It is sitting on my desk as I am typing this. It DOES have 3 positions on the switch. Do you think I got a special one? :D

You must indeed have a special one.

Owners manual, page 7 shows and states momentary on/off switch. I called the company and they confirmed that they only made units with the momentary on switch.

I called CPO, an online distributor and they checked 6 that they had in stock, none have the capability to stay on without the user physically holding the switch.

And yes, I do indeed have one sitting in front of me. I like this tool very much. I wouldnt sharpen a high end expensive knife with it, but standard kitchen knives are a breeze!

I bought one on a lark for doing convex and not wanting to use the harbor freight belt sander and it does stay on. It can do the momentary or click here and it stays on.

Might have a magical one as well ;)

Jungman and I both have magical ones I guess? Here is page 7 from my user guide.
3 Position Power switch. Go figure?
momentary/ grinding on/ Off
