Work Sharp Knife Sharpener

Maybe there's something to this??

Perhaps there is. We've all had computer problems ourselves.
Perhaps the company never even received my e-mails...

But four days ago the company rep was right here. He most certainly saw that I was trying to contact them for information about purchasing their product. That was four days ago. I still haven't heard a word from them.

You can bet he saw it. ;)

You know what they say about heat in the kitchen.

What gets me about all this is that if this is the way folks who are thinking about buying their product are treated (or not treated, as the case may be), just imagine what it could be like if their product doesn't work right...

I hope they are getting this all sorted out, as their product is an interesting one.

I have had good customer service with the company. I called them several weeks ago and got right through and recieved the help I needed.

I also sent a warranty card in and in less than 2 weeks recieved a free gift back from them. Very fast.

Glad to hear it!

Tool arrived today, time to test it out......

First impressions, Its not nearly as loud as I thought and runs very smooth. Belts are easy to change and seem to work effectively. I have yet to fully read the directions or watch the DVD I do believe was included but what man need directions ;)

The one issue I'm seeing now is the difficulties getting the heel/choil area of the knife, maybe the directions will help :)

I tested it out on a kitchen knife with excellent results and used it freehand on my D2 outcast that had a existing convex bevel. D2 is tough stuff and the 6k belt only lightly effected it but I really wasn't expecting much more considering the steel.

I had only a slight burr after finishing the kitchen knife and the edge had a feel of extreme sharpness but that wee little burr kept from shaving. A few passes on a strop and it was good though.

At this point I think my only complaint would be the knife guard not letting you get close enough to the belt. There is a second guard for 25 degrees and to sharpen other tools that allows you to get very close but 25 is a little steep for my liking.

Can you remove the guard and free wheel it, as you could do on a buffing wheel, thus creating a convex edge?

Gotta wait for the review :)

Yes, you can use it any way you want. When I used it on my outcast I removed the guard and held the machine.

How would you use it without the guard freehand? Im assuming that the switch is a pressure momentary switch, which means you need to hold the switch in to turn on the machine. I would not want to freehand sharpen using it like a typical belt sander if you have to hold the button with one hand and the knife with the other. You wouldnt have good control of the knife to control the angles.

Of course you could clamp the switch to stay on, not sure how that would work.

Something to consider is the company rep may have had some discussion with a mod concerning his posts which were very close to being spam. This is complete speculation on my part but certainly a possibility.

Doesn't sound too promising - sorry to be Mr. Negativity - oops that name's already taken. :p

Possible, but he could have easily e-mailed directly to me. No spam on the board that way. Unfortunately... he didn't.
