A knife is nothing more than a tool. If I pay for a knife and it has a valid warranty. I will feel no guilt sending in a worn out knife to be repaired or replaced. I doubt if companies are going to go broke from replacing or repairing a knife. And they have no problem with my repeat business. One example is one of my CRKT M16's. I used it for a few years on rough jobs to the point the frame lock would slip and had weak engagement. I sent it back with a statement that the lock was worn out from years of use. CRKT replaced it and thanked me for doing business with them. Most companies are not running short on knives or losing money by replacing /repairing a worn knife. And when it comes to my more expensive knives such as Hogue and Zero Tolerance. I expect damn good customer service when each one of these knives runs $200 to $350.
