This is in contrast to the constant best threads that float around.

Mine was my Wenger Standard Issue- the only knife that I bought new and had no desire to use until I redged it. It was like dull right out of the pack. Now that I cleared that little problemo up it is a great knife.

Hideaway. Returned a claw because I didn't have the resources or skill to sharpen it to my needs, exchanged it for a straight which also came dull, but was easy to sharpen.

Ontario 5-10 AirForce Survival Knife. The edge wasnt exactly dull but it definetly wasnt any good for cutting either. now that its reprofiled and polished up its tons better.

PS
My hideaway came super sharp. 440C, Straight. Ordered about 2 years ago. When did you order yours?

Scrapyard DC Dumpster Mutt I got 3 and only 1 could even cut paper but just barely. But I have re profiled it, and it is razor sharp and one of my favorite fixed blades.

Ordered a DLC coated s30v version recently. Apparently its a known problem that even the owner is aware of.

The Wilkinson Dartmoor have a dull edge. Among good knives, this is the worst I have.
( Followed by the Gerber Mark II, but that one is not supposed to cut )

2 of my favourites came with the worst edges. ZT301 and ZT150. They came sharp, its just the angles on the 2 sides where totaly different. One side was about 20-25 deg and the other 35-40deg. It took me hours to get them the same.

I have a Magnum that was kickin' around in the back of the drawer for years that had almost no edge on it(I know, cheap chinese knife, but it's a boker!). I dug it out recently, cleaned an loosened the pivot and sharpened the blade(chisel ground tanto=super easy to sharpen), and I kind of like it now.

Gerber GB-6058 Magnum LST Jr and Gerber GB-6050 Ultralight LST. Identical knives in different size. I bought them together 5 years ago. Tired of trying sharpen them and hold the edge. Thick blades, crappy steel. Very cheap knives though.

I picked up a DMLE a while back and it's factory edge is easily one of the sharpest I've ever encountered!

I think with the DCDM they were trying to move excess material out of the shop ASAP in prep for their move, so the quality wasn't what you'd normally expect from SY. Purely speculation on my part though.

Can't beat that price though.

In the last 40 years I can't recall ever seeing a Case slip-joint come out of the box with a really good edge. I've always liked the classic look and the good fit and finish of a Case but you might as well get out the Sharpmaker if you get one because they aren't coming from the factory sharp.

my busses consistently rank at the bottom of the "factory sharpness" scale. Of course spyderco and benchmade make up the top level. The ones that I have sharpened have taken a fine edge. I have one custom that came dull as a butter knife. It also took a fine edge.

buddy got me a Fury Sheath knife, and the blade was not even got a sharpened edge, funny.
the edge is thick enough to go to heat treat.

I have heard that more than once... I wonder if thats why every old dude that see's my knives is impressed w/ the edge.

Edit* That said I really REALLY want some Case knives! :D

My BM Gravitator came rather dull.
Other BM's were razor sharp, but this one took some quality time with the Sharpmaker to really shine.
Now it's a little pocket lightsaber(and looks better with an Emerson clip then it did with the generic clip supplied with it).
