Worst factory edge you encountered

I second that one. I have examined many Case pocket knives and none of them could shave hair out of the box. Some were so dull I was tempted to think they were unsharpened.

Sounds like a worst Case scenario...

(Sorry!)

Scrapyard DC Dumpster Mutt I got 3 and only 1 could even cut paper but just barely. But I have re profiled it, and it is razor sharp and one of my favorite fixed blades.

Mine couldn't even cut paper. I was very disappointed in it.

Actually, my worst (fortunately) was a Tachyon copy from... uh... I want to say M-Tech.

The edge bevels didn't meet in the middle... there was instead a 1.5mm area of unsharpened steel at the end.

Made a good cheap trainer, I'll say that.

my dble cut DM could shave, in a couple spots. after resarpening, I noticed two really nasty places on the edge where the angle was just way out. I would have to waste a lot of metal to get the bevel completely even.

had a Queen of the legendary dullness, a blunt Kershaw S60V random task, Ti/tungsten carbide BM 970st, a Spyderco paramilitary that couldn't hurt a fly, a couple of customs that never made a second trip to the belt grinder to get an edge, probably some more I just can't remember atm.

The worst I've ever had was one of those cheap Wal-Mart machetes... The edge was only halfway done. "WTF," was my reaction, but a file took care of that. I realize it was only a cheap $5 machete, but come on, when I buy something that is intended to be used for cutting, I expect there to at least be something that resembles an edge.

I bought a Glock field knife a few years ago that had a really crappy edge on it. It wouldn't even cut paper. Once again, file to the rescue. It won't shave hair or anything, but it does at least have a good working edge now.

These two knives are how I learned to use a file to sharpen stuff.

Tops Scout. Bought it to be used at a wilderness survival school. Since it was smaller I figured it would be better at carving and doing smaller tasks. What a mistake, might as well bought a butter knife. My swiss army knife/Busse ended up doing most of the carving. I bought my Busse Badger Attack with me on the trip. It cuts circles around the tops. Now thats an edge.

BM CQC Tanto. Escaped quality control with an unsharpened edge. As this was a chisel grind I returned it and received 2 knives back. One serrated, one not. Nice customer service.

Just about every case knife I have ever come across. That said they are my favorite production company.

A Bark River. From the box was worse than a butter knife.

Dull BRKT knives? Oh boy! I have two on the way... don't tell me that!

My dullest knife was a Colt AR-15 I bought like 9 years ago... It was my first folder with a thumb stud! 440 steel... (don't know which one... A, C..).

Every Case I've bought, except for one, were very dull. But once the edge is there, it's there for a while. I'm very satisfied with their CV knives, once I get the edge on them.

I can't really say that I'v ever bought a knife that was sharp enough out of the box. Just my honest opinion though.
