Worst factory edge you encountered

I bought a couple of Queen MM knives a few years back. Sharp as a spoon.

Yea....I have quite a few Queen slip joints and don't recall any of them coming with anything close to good edge.....uneven and dull edges.

I recently purchased a BM 211 Snody Activator. It came out of the box so dull, I had to work on it for quite a while. Considering the price, and reputation, I was disappointed. Downright sharp now, but I still call it my "butter knife".

Every Queen I have bought in the past year. Thre total came with little or no edge, great fit and finish, just no edge. My Moore Maker came with a very thick edge, and I believe they are made by Queen? I wish they would fix that, because they are an awsome value for what you get.

A MOD Hornet and Pointman came extremely dull. I guess they were designed to be weapon sharp only.
Also a few of the Gerber Internation series came dull as possible. No surprise there.:barf:

I've had both Gerber and Bucks with dull edges, and Opinel's don't come too sharp from the factory. My first couple of Wengers were supplied to me for review by the manufacturer and came with decent enough edges, but when I returned one because the scissors fell apart, the replacement knife had a very dull edge.

Queen doctor's knife. It came really thick, and really dull. It took a while with a diamond stone to get it to the point that it cuts well.

Case. I've had two and they were both awful. Can't understand how they can be so popular, especially among the knife community.

BM Griptilian....from factory..no edge what so ever. Never been on a grinder....OOPS!

Kershaw Blur. The grind was even off the entire length of the blade. One side was steeper than the other so it slid almost sideways through even paper and had to be sawed back and forth through a letter to open it.

Back in the 1960's it was common to buy knives that had no factory edge at all. It seemed like anything with a tactical design was sold either as a display piece or was trying to pass as a display piece (to allow it to be sold in jurisdictions where dirks and daggers were illegal). On these knives there was commonly a 1/16-inch flat surface where you would expect the apex of an edge. It took a file or a grinder to edge those suckers.

Just got a cold steel finn bear and CS true flight thower, both with pretty poor edges, and worse the blades on both are curved in opposite directions from the heat treat:(

All the CS knives I've had have actually come with very sharp factory edges, apart from an LTC Kukri, where the first 1/8" back from the tip had been ground really badly and wasn't sharp at all.

I seem to remember back in the early 90's a few manufacturers were selling blunt knives supposedly so that the buyer could put their own personal edge on. Personally I thought this just sounded like B.S. and an excuse not to finish the job properly themselves, but maybe I'm wrong.

I second that one. I have examined many Case pocket knives and none of them could shave hair out of the box. Some were so dull I was tempted to think they were unsharpened.

My Northwoods Scagel English Jack came pretty much blunt.

Before that, a CRKT Stiff Kiss and F4 were both useful for stirring paint.

queen cutlery recently has been disappointing in the edge department. the last few d2 congress models that i bought have had horrible edges.

When I got my BM 710HS back a few years ago it was sharpened pretty poorly, they left a big burr and the knife wouldn't shave at all.

I'm supprised no one has said the gerber paraframe yet, that was my worst and i have heard consistant bad reviews on it over the years. Repressed memories maybe?

They are still bad got a sodbuster with D2 last summer it was by far the worst. $1 dollar gas station knives are sharper. But with alot of work reprofiling with the Lanskey and now it is great and holds it for a long time.
