Worst knife deals you ever saw?

I’ve owned a couple and they are grossly overpriced. Luxury items typically are.
I've played with 2, the first I was like eh it's not bad, maybe $100-200 over priced. The 2nd was really nice. I'm not sure what model it was and I actually don't know what it went for.

That's terrible! In many places around the United States, the monthly rent for even a small studio apartment is Quadruple the price of a Manix 2, and that's if you get one in premium steel.

I ordered a small fixed blade from African Custom Knives on sale for under a hundred USD. It's only 12C27 but that's a solid step up from 8Cr13Mov. How do their prices stack up locally?
Yeah I'm jealous of the prices and selection of knives in the USA. With regards to custom knife prices here, I can get a nice South African custom knife for the same price that a Para 2 goes for. BTW, properly treated 12C27 is actually quite a high performing steel, according to cardboard slicing tests done by Outpost 76 on YouTube. Nothing to be sneezed at and a much better upgrade than 8Cr

Probably a fairly baseline Randall Knife. In this case a Model 14. Base price is $460.00 Ummm, OK.

I wanted a "standard double lug" (which most photographed Model 14s seem to have) not the clunky "Slightly different style double hilt is standard on 14, 15 and 18." I can't imagine there's any difference in cost to RMK and the knife is being custom built anyway, yet it's a $25.00 "upgrade."

I wanted a white Micarta ("Ivorite") handle rather than the black Micarta handle. I figured the upgrade would be $10.00 -- the difference between the Ivorite ($60.00) and the stock black Micarta ($50.00) Nope, that'll be the full $60.00 please.

I figured the finger grips (included in the base Model 14) would still be included if I ordered an Ivorite handle. Nope! Another $40.00 please!

So the way I see it, $10.00 worth of upgrades for $125.00 on a $460.00 knife -- or an overall price increase of 27% for the knife.

Almost seemed like a bit of bunko going on...

I walked up to a knife booth at a gun show a few years ago, they were selling most of my favorite brands...for about 150-200% of msrp. That was, by far, the worst deal I ever saw.

The last gun show I visited had a couple of tables with knives. There were a few of the cheap gun-branded knives at full MSRP or worse. There were a lot of M-Techs and flagrantly colored assisted nonsense in mystery steel. The selection reminded me of flea markets and state fairs from twenty years ago. It was like some terrible time capsule, conveniently located next to well-worn military doodads and ancient ammo in tattered boxes. I'm not sure if it was the cardboard boxes or the effect of totes stored in garages but there was a faint smell of lingering mold...

Being 2020, there wasn't much in the way of guns either. It was a total bust. :(

Spyderco deleted - keep it family friendly I mean Bombshell was vastly over priced, both retail and especially secondary market. However...

The William Henry for $45,000 is just ridiculous.

Hmm, the BMW or the knife...

Dergyll Dergyll ; Yeah that slyze Bowie is just stupid, and the numnuts on ebay have paid over a grand for them.Seems like they cooled off a bit now 600 is the norm wether its the older one or the knifejoy one either way its no deal in any way....

If I remember correctly, it was not that long ago that there was a Todd Begg prototype going for something around $3million on ebay... That might have been worth it though.

Thread about it two years ago I guess

The original slysz is the finest folder I've ever owned...out of hundreds... nothing stupid about it... I don't carry mine, however, as my uses are more casual.

Worse deal? Probably Phil Collins purchase of the Musso bôwie.
