Would anyone else be upset with jimping like this?(resolved)

A good business man would have offered you a refund, or, the alternative of making you the proper knife with a steeeeep discount. Frankly, if I were DDR, I would've given you your knife on the house. It's a company's duty to bite the proverbial bullet. Not yours. Had they done this, the tables would have turned in their favor and this could've been a positive situation for their business. Could have created customers.

One happy customer = They tell a few people, maybe give you a positive write up.

One unhappy customer = This 6 page monstrosity of a thread and an entire forum of enthusiasts that now know better. We are, after all, his NICHE market.

I agree that would be an amazing way to make me a satisfied customer after going through all this. I like to think it happened for a reason and I learn a few valuable lessons of buying and commissioning builds for custom knives. On the bright side this has afforded me the opportunity to purchase a true grail that I couldn't be more excited to own.i emailed them today and they said I should have my refund tonight.

I'm happy you're at least satisfied with being able to buy a proper grail. If you're interested in a completely customizable knife st a fraction of the cost of that P.O.S. DDR, check out Olamic Knives. Premium materials, thousands of gorgeous build possibilities and Eugene, the owner, is a fantastic guy who replies with care and detail, in a timely fashion. I am in the process of having one built right now.

Was literally just about to say something akin to this. Absolutely unacceptable on any knife, let alone a 4 thousand dollar knife. Jimping has a reason for being there, you know, for traction. Not character, which in this case is a euphemism for not giving a damn and sending out seconds.

I always liked the 247, the busker was too small for me and swish just never called to me. I am interested to see what else they do but i would like a user with a little extras from them soon for sure.

If I had that kind of a budget I'd consider:
- SharpbyDesign Archnemesis Dagger or Chicane
- Olamic Cutlery Rainmaker
- Peter Rassenti Nirvana or Snafu
- Shirogorov 111 (Maybe something custom three bears-y)

I'm calling either a SharpbyDesign Chicane or a Rassenti Nirvana. My logic is: You like something fancy but practically shaped, and you haven't seemed to dip into Olamic yet. The Snafu is less practical than the Nirvana, the Dagger is less practical and more aggro compared to the Chicane...

Also I got an email saying they payed and just checked PayPal, they gave me a full refund. I am very happy the refund was processed quickly and they were seemed eager to help resolve the order and ensure there was a satisfactory resolution once talking with Darrel and his wife.

you know me pretty well lol but I got the snafu 2.0 otw here.
 
I must admit, that does seem a rather "poor QC" kind of thing. Unless it's a cheapo, then I'd just consider it par for the course.

If it cost more than $15 I'd return it for a refund or replacement with suitable jimping.

It was supposed to be a ~4000$ custom as mentioned before. So yes....more than 15$...

Lol this story is all too familiar to me, but mine was "ready to go" on Darrel's desk when I called after waiting for a custom to be correctly produced for 6 months after the second return to the "factory" not to mention the original wait. He did step up and refund the money (full value) after trying to offer a discount on a future knife, not the custom that came with a blade that extended past the frame.
