Would/do you guys ever carry and use a sought after knife that is no longer made?

I buy some knives just because I like the look. They would not be the most practical, kershaw trooper for example. I really do not have use for a double sided boot dagger in my everyday life. But I still really like it. Another is a lionsteel damascus blade with mother of pearl handles. I can carry it and have but it is in a felt pouch in my suit pocket is that casting our using a knife, I don't think so.

That being said I use my knives that are built for use. So I guess the answer is maybe...

Hi. All my knives have been sought after (save some bucks here and there monthly, search for them hard, try to get my own “right” price, etc.) :). Currently I think I only own two which are discontinued (but one never knows if someday, somewhere, they will be resurrected :D). I use my tools for good, but never abuse them. They all see their good share of pocket/rucksack time and they seem to like it :D. Me too ;) ! I try to maintain them all properly and they generally last for years (not only knives). As said somewhere before, using my blades it’s the part of this hobby I like most. Here they are, busy in some outdoor activities :):

What Benchmade is that?

I realized after awhile that I wasn't using some knives and hated seeing them in my drawer so unless they had sentimental value they got sold. Benchmade's, Spyderco's, Leatherman's all went out the door because they just sat there. Now all my knives get carried and beat on equally.

My harder to find knife that I use is an Emerson EOTAC which is a fairly limited run but I'm not going to spend $300 on a knife to have it be pocket jewelry.

I just got one of the GEC15 HJ, ebony handles that waynorth had sfo.
Been carrying every day since!

Yes, most of my knives. I've been using them for years, even picked up replacements when they come up as I like some so much and would miss not having one.
Here is an example, one in use, one for spare; pretty collectable now:

My son now gets the "spares"; but they are all for using.

Some people just like collecting, nothing wrong in that either. In knife collecting then the premium is generally reflected in the quality. MIB can be important for recent factory, but not always the case. Very few knives make a really big premium and then they really need to be early something from a maker that is later very much in fashion. For most they might just stay in line with inflation. Some makers are chasing the collectors market which eventually distracts from overall value of collecting. Its got to the stage where buying for an investment todays stock is more likely to be a loss maker. Better to buy into high profile older work. Sadly, there are a lot of knives made that are likely to be never worth much ever.

Anyhow, to me the real value is in using them.

Hi,
Curious of what brand knives you have pictured ?
Thanks, BTB
-Also , to add to the discussion, it seems as though the more knives acquired, the less get the pocket time that they deserve. I also have pieces that fall more into the collectable catagory, and
end up being treated as such, not that the collectables should not be carried and used, however,
as that would be the real enjoyment, as you would be admiring, handling, and using them on a
regular rotation, instead of taking them out only on occasion to admire them...guilty:rolleyes:

I really hope SOMEONE continues making David Boye Knives. I do have a Basic 3 but I'd love one of his cobalt folders!

Sure do.... my most used and beat up folder is an orange Military

I carry a large 21 seb for occasions but I edc a manix 2 cruwear sprint that I modded.
Cruwear is out of production and the Seb has a Very sentimental date on it (one of seven made on that day, so not likely replaceable).

I say use them, its what their made for. As long as its used for what's its designed for and not abused.

How many of you have thrown away rare/unique knives because no one would buy them and you didn't want them junking up your house?

I can't even remember how many times that's happened.

Not a knife collector here, so I am unlikely to purchase a discontinued "sought after" knife of any kind unless I already have the knife and want a spare because I like it so much.
