Would this flaw bother you?

Personally, I don’t consider it a flaw. It really adds to the beauty of the material, kind of like a knot in wooden scales. I would probably keep it myself. However, if it’s something that bothers you, then I suggest returning it to avoid future regret.

Have you considered returning it and just buying a meteorite instead? You could likely get a really cool one from a reputable dealer for much less than the cost of that knife. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Imperfections in natural materials don’t seem to bother me when the material is by itself but when it’s modified for a knife part and the imperfections are highlighted I get meh too.

For several thousand dollars, you should be happy with the knife. Exchange only if you can get good pics of the new knife, and can be 100% happy. If not, try for a refund.

Wait a minute...Y'all are focused on the scales and I'm over here thinking this guy actually told his wife how much he spent on this one 😂. You do know that automatically makes it ok for them to spend that much on some purses and stuff, right?! 😉

If it was me and it was a natural material I would accept that as part of the finish.

This. Locutus D'Borg Locutus D'Borg you say that you'd been looking for a knife using meteorite for over a decade. Is this pinhole worth returning the knife and possibly waiting another decade before another such knife comes along? It's a question to ponder.

If it’s going to bother you, return it.

On the other hand, it’s part of a meteorite that flew around the sun for untold millennia, made a fiery descent through the atmosphere, crashed on the surface, was luckily found, and parts were eventually made into that knife. Can anyone except perfection after all that?

Edit: fixed misspelling
Reach down and pick up any old rock, to any other planet that would be considered an exotic and expensive material.
As someone that finds the universe beyond our planet fascinating, almost to a nerdy level, it’s just a space rock. Considering scientists theorize that earths water came from space debris/ice colliding with us, any old pond/lake/ocean/tap has space water in it.
All perspective I suppose 🤷.

Maybe the next rock that flies up and hits my windshield again, I should save as an earth meteorite, I might be able to sell it to an alien someday for a hefty sum.

I heard on the news that people are concerned with all the poo we have left on lunar expeditions over the years, apparently it is just left there and is piling up, they are contemplating bringing it back to earth, I bet someone would pay big money for astronaut moon poo. Imagine how much that will cost to bring all those doggy bags back to clutter up an already cluttered planet, when space is so expansive they could just jettison it into orbit and it would turn into a meteoroid someday, from hemorrhoid to meteoroid, an epic transformation, they could even make a documentary about it.

Someone would make knife scales out of it.

You laugh but I bet if someone found a way to resin impregnate that moon astronaut poo and make knife scales and/or handles from it for custom knives, they would sell like hot cakes. Maybe even more so if they matched the moon poo to the astronaut (genetic testing) that produced it. You'll be holding history in your hands.

Hey, great news from WH. I asked them to see if they could find a knife without such an imperfection and I just received an email from the head of customer relations that they found one and had just shipped it out. Wow, nice customer service.

So Blues Blues this thread can be closed. I read and listened to all of your suggestions, and am happy for this positive turn of events. This is one of several reasons why I love BF.

John

PS: I know all about wabi-sabi, but for SOME things (like knives) I seek perfection, or close to it.
