The problem with these “weapon sweeps” is that the people who comply and turn these ordinary tools in are not the ones who would use them as weapons in the first place. All these “actions” are for is to give the illusion that something is being done about crime, when in fact nothing is being accomplished, other than taking common, necessary tools away from law-abiding citizens. It’s really a big scam, and those law-abiding citizens who complied have been conned.
