Would you be ok with just traditional knives for pocket carry?

I no longer have any modern knives, so sure, I carry a traditional folder every day.

Yeah, but why limit myself? I got rid of my one hand opener collection, in pursuit of a slipjoint collection. I usually carry a small jack and a small fixed blade. However, I have a few balis, a few knives with Axis locks, and a few Swahili sounding knives made in Idaho by way of South Africa ;). Those Swahili knives are too nice to sit on a shelf, gotta use them. Some are the big boss, some are made for work. I carry one of those every day with my slipjoints, and a small fixed blade.

It seems by my limited amount of knife fighting training, that you are on equal level with a pocket size one-handed knife as you are a pocket sized traditional. Deployment might be a tad quicker. But, if I am going to fight with a knife I want one at least a foot long. Or a machete or a good gun. When I do carry a one hand opener it usually is also with a small traditional. I am carrying the one-handed knife to cut something like string doing a project where I have one hand holding something else. If you feel the need for a one-handed knife for safety by all means carry it. For me a traditional folder is both a tool for cutting services and a personal item, sort of a hold over of the days where we had bear claws around our neck, or a lucky rock in a pocket or a pocket watch on a gold chain. It is something to show someone who your are, something to use, something to have pride in keeping and to share a ownership with other brothers of "The Knife".

I like and carry both. If a SAK is traditional, that's what I use the most by far. But I also love my Spyderco Caly 3, which slices as good as any of my traditional knives, so no, I wouldn't choose one over the other. It's ok to like both. :D

Have both — and carry traditionals almost exclusively. I like the modern ones I have more because of their apprearance than because their function fits any needs. (And I'd remove thumbstuds as an unnecessary doodad if it didn't wreck the looks.)

However, when it comes to put one (or two) in my pocket for the day, it's the traditional pattern I choose. Currently, it's a Scout (Ulster or Imperial) and a Vic Classic. But the non-Classic could be a canoe, a stockman (rare), a lockback (Buck, Schrade), or some other pattern.

I'm not sure why this preference is so marked, but it probably comes from being familiar with traditional designs for much longer than modern ones.

Yes, I could get along without a modern. I carry traditionals mostly anyway, but I do carry a modern from time to time. I mostly like the option to carry a variety designs even if I don't generally carry anything other than traditionals.

Yep, I could do that but I have a little more peace knowing there's these other 2 hidden close by for that special situation.;)

I could, I did for the first 30 years of my life. I have however grown fond of a couple of modern folders in the last few years so I carry them when i feel they might be useful.

I've been carrying, "old school" folders for about a year now, exclusively. Yes I could if I had to, but I recently picked up on the habit of carrying a fixed blade everyday, and in conjunction with my slipjoints, and traditional folding knives. As much as it pains me to say it, if I was regulated to just a folder I'd get back into the more modern stuff, and I still do own all of my Modern folders. Didn't sell anything, seeing as my taste change on a whim, for a long time. If I can have my fixed blade, then I don't need a one hander. Traditional pocket knife, and EDC sized fixed blade (modern or traditional or whatever) for me.
