Would you be ok with just traditional knives for pocket carry?

I'd no more carry just one kind of knife than drink only one kind of wine.

... would you be ok with carrying just traditionals for pocket carry, and no moderns? ...

yes. in fact i dont carry moderns at all. come to think of it, ive never carried a modern knife. only handled a few.
eventually i will try a modern knife; i have one in mind that may be a good fit for me. no hurry, though. likely everyone will be carrying personal cutting lasers soon enough and any sort of sharpened hunk of metal will seem quaint in the same way our great grandfathers carried oatmeal for when the radiator in their model t sprang a leak.

I like some modern knives, like the Paramilitary 2, but all I really need are SAKs, although I'm starting to look at traditional styles as well. Frankly, I could go without all knives altogether other than my kitchen knives, but where's the fun in that? :)

For 50 years at least a slip joint was all I had and needed. I only carry the modern ones now too because they have their particular usefulness.

Putting aside fixed blades for tougher outdoor chores, would you be ok with carrying just traditionals for pocket carry, and no moderns?

Probably not. I'm too much of a knife knut.

That being said, there are days when I only carry a traditional.

i havent carried a modern folder in a few years. well on occasion, but mostly its when i dont want to put on pants, and i run to the store in sweat pants, i use(d) the clip to keep the knife in the pocket.
but since its winter, i just been throwing my traditional inside my coat pocket.

so, to answer the question, yup. pretty much been NOT edcing a modern since i got out of the military like 11 years ago

I would be 'okay' but not particularly happy. I like being able to know exactly how my knife is oriented when I pick it out of my pocket, and I like being able to hold something in one hand while I open my knife. I also like having a lock, just in case, maybe it's because I'm so clumsy. I broke my foot taking out the trash a few months ago :(

I do own a carry a few traditionals, but mostly for nostalgia or sentimental reasons.

I havent seen my ZT 200 in 6 months or more?...No worries with a #23 in my pocket and a couple of small,s....I couldnt be happier...................FES

I be fine as long as they relaxed the knife laws so I could carry a fixed blade more openly, along with people not freaking out. Till than, no I can't. Modern one hand openers are still the way to go in certain situations when you require your other hand to be doing something else it is handy to be able to pull out a knife, open it, cut, close, put away all with that one hand. For EDC or any work I know what I am doing in advance I take a traditional slipjoint when I can, I have grown to love the slimmer blades over the extremely thick ones you typically find in modern folders.

BOB...Very interesting...In NZ you are not allowed to carry a knife PERIOD!...Not even a slipjoint....Unless you can prove that its for your work...If you want to carry a knife here, you must fly under the radar....stealth bombers rule...FES

Since many if my best clipped folders were stolen in October I have spent more and more days carrying a slipjoint only, and they are much more comfortable in scrubs and take less bulk (usually), although it doesn't detract me from carrying my Alan Davis made WharnKris I designed. Different times for different tasks, but yep, I'm comfortable with just a slipjoint.

I couldn't do it! I go back and forth too much. I was going to say Monday through Friday I only EDC a Peanut into NYC, but then that's a lie. I forget that I keep a Leatherman Micra strapped in my bag in case I have to open up a computer or anything else that might require a tool other than a knife.

Yep. The only modern I still have is a Boker Nano, I just keep it because it was a gift and it's so darn cute :)

I don't think I would. As much as I have grown to appreciate the process of pick knife, pull from pocket, choose blade, use, fold, return....there's much to be said for the rapid-use OHO. There was a thread recently about the young man at the Christmas tree lot helping the member tie-down his purchase. I also like a reasonably strong folder clipped in the RFP position as a back-up in case I got into some physical confrontation. But yes, in the office...no real need for one.

OK ,yes unless they passed a law saying that was all I could carry. Then I would carry my tradition and a modern folder for spite.
