I EDC this Benchmark often. At times I slip my CRKT Ringed Razel or my ER Shrapnel into my back pocket...;)

Heyyyyyy, just noticed that this topic was started by Mr. Koster... Trying to get a feel for the market? ;)

I've EDC'd fixies -- RC-3, Izula, a couple of small Bark Rivers, BK-11, A.G. Russell Woodswalker. I prefer that the knife/sheath allow me to carry it discreetly.

Yes, but it must be concealed carry and the sheath would have to allow for fast and easy access, while remaining comfortable.

If it's going to take more time to deploy then a pocket knife, or if the sheath feels uncomfortable after long periods, then I wouldn't do it.

Nope...just curious. *shrug*

The question has been asked before, but not like the way I made the poll.

The idea of carrying a fixed blade every day is very captivating to me, I guess. For some people it's easy to do; others, more difficult.

I've been EDCing a fixed blade for about a year-and-a-half now. It's easier for me because, well, the boss has no problem with it (me :D) and I live in Arkansas after all. :p

Obviously, I don't EDC anything when I teach classes at the local college...but other than that, I've got it on me all-day, every-day.

Technically, I can EDC whatever length I want as long as I'm using it for some hunting/outdoor/etc purpose.

Before that, 3.5" blade was the legal limit. I used to just ignore that, relying on my rather boring lifestyle to keep me under the radar. But, I decided to become even more boring/law-abiding and carry an EDC under the limit just to see what it's like. :p

After having carried for this long....it's now a natural part of me...feels wierd if I don't have it on my side.

I haven't had any "freak out" moments...(knock on wood). Even opened a package at the USPS counter with it and the clerks just ignored it...as did the rest of the folks in line. In the more rural areas I've been to, people are more likely to ask about it...out of curiosity, not concern.

Anyway, like I said, it is very easy for me to EDC a fixed blade....I was just wondering how practical it is for everybody else.

Even though I've been making knives for a while now, I was always a "folder guy" for EDC. But I love the quick in/out of a fixed blade sheath.

And FWIW, I don't conceal it - I wear it openly with my shirt tucked into my pants. I have yet to get any bug-eyes or concerned looks. (knock on wood).

For those that EDC a fixed blade - has your experience been similar? different?

Feel free to share any stories!

Dan

I would, if I would see it or deem it necessary. I have perfect small neck knife for that, but in urban area I have no not deemed it necessary carry a fixed blade. But sure. Some small fixed blade might be handy depending where you live and situations. I probably would edc something with 3" blade or under

Every now and then I'll carry a small fixed blade on my person, but always have a folder clipped in right pocket.

I do carry a small maxpidition bag with a fixed blade attached with me every where I go, but usually leave it in the car when I get out.

Izula around my neck. It's not always the most convenient method to use but it's very comfortable to wear and always there as a compliment to my pocket folder.

When I voted no, I didn't consider the small neck knives, etc. I saw a guy carrying a Bowie style knife one time, and he looked like an idiot.

I carry a Graham Bros or Krein a few times a week. I really do prefer to carry a fixed balde but some times they are too bulky. I try to carry on my belt under my shirt so 3.5 inches and under are a must due to state laws. I have a few that I carry in pocket sheaths and I really like the way that works. The main problem I keep running in to is that it gets pretty expensive to sheath them all. The best I have found for the money is the Graham sheath, but, Jon is so busy I feel like an ass asking him to sheath some of my knives from other makers. I really wish more folks would start using the the thinner pocket clips and doing a nice thin/light wet molded pocket sheath.

Yes, I've EDC'd a BRKT Mini Northstar and will again in the future once I put the scales back on.

I'm EDC'ing a Murray Carter right now.

Also very curious about the BRKT Lil Canadian and I might give the Izula another chance.

For me, the limiting factor is weight, not max length. I strongly prefer neck carry. Anything above 3.0 oz feels like a brick around my neck. I tried to neck carry a RAT3 for about 20 seconds once.

On the other hand, I've found that I don't have much use for a fixed blade with a shorter blade than a medium-sized folder like a Delica, although this size fixed blade is very popular. I've EDC'd a BRKT Mikro in the past, but found it less useful than just carrying a Spyderco Ladybug instead. That being said, I loved pocket-carrying the BRKT Little Creek proto that I foolishly traded off.

ETA: I would be very curious to see a future Koster EDC.

I definitely would and I'm going to. I carry a folder now because I liked folders more in the past, but I'm gonna make a small fixed EDC for myself soon (or probably more of them ;) ).

Even though I live in a community in Central British Columbia where most people are outdoors type people (hunters, fishermen, backpackers) I still would not EDC a fixed blade. For most EDC knife purposes a folder is strong enough and big enough. A fixed blade would bring unwanted attention to a person from both law enforcement and some other folks.

Now in outdoor activities (including my job as I work in the bush sommetimes) there is no problem carying a fixed blade.

I carry a fixed blade on the belt regularly. If it's not there I feel empty. On my housecoat I carry a fixed blade in a kydex sheath. I am constantly using that knife for nearly everything. Fixed blades are far more convienient, being quicker to deploy and easier to clean up than folders. I still carry a folder as a backup, and for moments when a fixed blade may not be socially appropriate.

Housecoat... that must be a cold climate phenomenon.

In part you are right about the cold, but the main reason is lousy health. The housecoat created a problem for fixed blade carry, and kydex sheaths is the way to go.

Yup and I feel sorry for you who live in such restrictive states. I just have to watch the redneck factor of what I carry so the girlfriend doesn't fuss:)
